Water Changes

Hello. All my water tests indicate that everything is well within the right parameters but does this mean that no water changes are necessary or do other chemicals/pollutants affect the water so that regular changes are essential.

Water changes are a VITAL part of tank maintenance & should be done on a regular basis. How often depends on your set up. I have a planted tank with injected co2 & so do a 50% water change every week without fail.

Water changes should be done on a regular basis.
Smaller tanks probably need more frequent changes.
Once you get into a routine, it isn't a chore

Some say weekly changes, others say monthly...it really is up to you and what you feel is best for the tank.

I try to do weekly but to be honest it's more like fortnightly at the minute. That's my limit really. I like to freshen up the water whether it 'needs' to be done or not - I think it's more natural for the fish.

Thanks everyone. My tank is well planted with CO2 machine and canister filter. I have been doing a 10% change most days but I think that may be a bit too conscientious and it will probably wear off as time goes on.

10% each day is 70% per week, so it is resonable to lower that. You could do 10% every other day or 40-50% on the weekend (as I do).
