Hi All, well I would like to know if it is OK if the temperature drops from 24C to 20C after a 50% water change. I use cold water and I read that hot water has less oxygen in it and I prefer to have more oxygen in the tank.

I do a 15per cent change once a week and temp drops about 3 degrees. Ive never had problems with this and it can set some fish off breeding. It should be ok, if your worried let water ajust to room temp the change wont be so bad.

The temperature in my tanks regularly drops 4 degress during water changes and has no ill effects though some very sensative fish may react badly to it.

Hi. if it's a one off 50% water change then ok, but if you do this regularily.....why? Usual water change is approx 15-25% and that will not effect the temp too much unless you live in Siberia!

When I have finished a (20%) water change I immediatly refill my container, dechloranize then either squeeze it in the airing cupboard or in the room where the tank lives (by the rad in winter) By the end of the week it is at a temp that has little effect on my tank :good:

Well it's not quite 50% but it's about 40% to 45% sometimes near 50%. I am doing a planted tank with CO2 injection and ferts, so I thought it was custom practice to change that much water. Is it too much? I assume my fish are doing fine as they have loads of colour in them.

Not sure how much my temp drops, but doesn't seem to affect the fish. In fact as already pointed out, it sometimes causes the fish to go into breeding mode.

OOOh Then I wont comment on what I don't know  CO2 injection ain't my thing! If it works then don't fix it! :good: If you need to do that much then can you try my method with a couple of containers to help with the temp (especially in winter)

I use a 10 litre size bucket for refilling during a water change and for each 10 litres one kettle full of near boiling water brings bucket up to about tank temperature

Snap!. It's as near as makes no difference. The hand is a more accurate judge than some people think.
