water changes for pond

Hello everyone

Does anyone know how often you must change pond water? and how much I should be changing at a time?

We do a 100% water change every spring to get out the dead leaves and clear the pond up. In 2 years, we have never lost a fish (unless due to the blue heron) and they have bred and quadrupled in numbers. We have a 3000 gallon pond so I don't know if size has any thing to do with it.
