Water change technique?

python into a 40l containter, then down the stairs, into the bath!

I syphon water out down a hose, through the window, into the gutter.. which proceeds down the pipes and into the drains and sewers.

My replacement water comes from the bath, by way of a pump, having been temperature adjusted to match the aquarium and treated to eliminate clorine and chloramines.

The siphonings from tanks, particulaly the crud from a "gravel cleaner" is absolutely superb fertilizer for the garden, those of you that chuck it down the toilet are wasting a valuable resource!!!!

I siphon/clean and drop the water level by the necessary amount, then run a pipe, (airline), from the RO unit to the tank and let it fill. Before anyone says anything, yes, I do know what I am doing with RO water!!! I continuously monitor/adjust my buffering potential etc.

I have adapted a battery powered gravel cleaner. I remove the bag connections and attach a large airline. I can then turn the cleaner on and the water just floods out... (well not flood - takes a while to do a large water change but saves a large disturbance.)

Then, depending on which tank it is - I will either use the method mentioned above, with water from a bucket / washing up bowl and filter it through the gravel cleaner, or I will just slowly pour the bucket into the tank.

:D

I want one of those...

if you EVER hear of that coming to the UK lemme know....

I use the bucket method with 5 gallon buckets. After using the gravel vac I switch over to a length of 5/8 i.d. hose. Goes much quicker that way.

I picked up a small aquarium pump cheap last week, and am going to use that this weekend to refill the tanks. Trying to avoid spillage, as I am in the process of setting up a tank in the living room. and don't want to spill any water up there.

How do you use an aquarium pump to refill the tanks? I've got a couple extra pumps lying around and I'd love to put them in use!

i vote other. My method is so much faster than a butcet or siphon, i use the outlet of my filter, it takes 10mins to empty my tank so 1.5mins to take out the water i need to change. works like a powerhead but only costs £3 to setup the lot and it'll cost £20 - £50 to get a powerhead setup. it beats the bucket method by 20 mins on my tank.

he he he...
easier water changes here i come :D

appreciate that - thanks
