Thanks again everyone :)

Ok no problem, thankyou :)

Hopefully ill get everything right, cheers for the help :)

My recent, personal experience has shewn that a tank whose filter has been thoroughly seeded with bacteria from an established tank can cycle a tank in 7 days.

I setup a new tank, popped several biggish fish in it, squeezed out half the sponges from 4 tank filters from established tanks into a bag, then immediatly poured the bag's contents into my new filter.

I then undertook 15% water changes for 6 days, on the 7th day I tested with a liquid kit and my numbers were 0, 0, 0.

I now do a 20%change every week and my numbers never go above 0, 0, 30.

so my advice is get some used media at all costs! It will speed up the process a good deal.

You say your LFS is unwilling to oblige you. Well travel a bit further and establish a relationship with a decent shop.
A shop that has members of staff who are interested in fish-keeping would, Iam sure, let you have some media.
Especially if they think they will have your future custom once your tank is established.

Good luck.

Ok thankyou doris, iam told if i use my pond media and ceramics it will work, and iam told by some people it wont work has carrys more nastys then an tropical tank?

And i right to use a little squueze from pond media and a couple of the pond filter's ceramics?

Hope you can direct me, and yes i will also keep a look out for a shop i can go to who will offer me some media, cheers

What Doris has done there is a "Fish In Cycle" this is not what you are trying to achieve. A fishless cycle may take longer but its a lot better for the fish in the long run.

The pond bacteria should be fine to get you started.

Cheers

ok thankyou, i shall try a small amount to get it going, i hope this is ok and wont cause any problems using it from the pond filter.

Thanks all :)
