Wanted ! - Mature Filter Media.

Hello all,

I went to my LFS and was told they cannot sell/give me mature filter media . Would anyone be willing to send me some and i will pay costs and postage costs?

Yes i tried this list a couple days ago and i got somone moaning at me has they no longer do it, can somone who still has some availible post here then i can arrange somthing, ill pay costs and postage etc etc?

Taolk to your local fish club, they usually hae some. And ask another lfs, i fyou have one, I have about 3 lfs's.

There is only one LFS here and they wont give me any and where i live im unsure of any fish clubs, ill be willing to pay postage etc etc if you or somone can help me out with a bit of mature media

If the media is being posted then the bacteria will most likely die anyway.

What you can do is ask your LFS or someone with an established tank to squeeze out the filter media into a jug or bag then within an hour soak/drench your filter media in this then get it running in the tank, i use this method and i was cycled within 10 days.

That is the problem, they can't find some one to do that, oh well hope that this post helps you out.

Might be worth you mentioning where abouts you live as someone reading your post may offer to help you if you are close enough to them.

0k sorry iam from UK, Wigan......, Iam not able to get hold of any mature filter media from lfs or friends has friends dont keep fish, and lfs are willing to provide me any, iam able to pay for postage ( next day special delivery )?

Bacteria die withing a few hours of being out of the water i'm sorry to say,

Are you fish in cycleing?

No i was going to fishless cycle?, Can i add a hardy fish to cycle my tank? and if so whats best ?


Hope you can help, and i may have to travel then to another fish shop to obtain some filter media?, I hope you can help with the cycle using a hardy fish.

FISHLESS CYCLE!!!!!!!

It's far less work and more humane.

If you are fishless cycleing all you need is ammonia and a test kit. It may take a little longer but will be so worth it in the end.

Fish in cycles mean endless water changes numerous times a day and likely fish deaths.
