Want To Keep Oscars/parrot Fish

Hi,

My partner used to keep oscars and parrot fish when he had this tank and it has been with me for over a year now....MINUS the original occupants.

I myself have been keeping mostly Livebearers in it but want to start keeping bigger fish than what I have now...!

I have advertised the stock on here on the Classifieds if anyone is interested.

My question is I will be leaving the following in the tank after all the livebearers and others have gone.

2 x Clown Loach (1 x 6" 1 x 3")
2 x Silver Dollars (about 7" each)
1 x Plec (8")

Would these be safe to keep in a tank with Oscars and Parrot fish?

How many of each should I purchase If I do decide to stock with Oscars and Parrots.....have had a few people say 2 Oscars MAX and 2 Parrots MAX but curious to know from you guys as you are all so helpful

I know it's a lot of Questions but I really wanna get this right.....

if its a 150 uk litre (unsure with the title then id say your probably already over stocked)

if its 150 uk gals id up the number of clowns and silver dollers as they need to be in bigger groups really

i wouldnt keep oscars or clown loaches in a tank that size...not sure about the parrots though

BAE it's a 4ft 150 Litre.... but correct me if I'm wrong with the water capacity lol

the problem is clown loaches need tons of swimming room and groups
same goes for the silver dollers
and plecs need a huge tank as they can get to twenty inches
and oscars need 75g for one and your tank
unsure on the parrots sorry

and yours is only 40 gals so
id recomend rehoming your fish or upgrading in the very near future

You're looking at 250l for a single oscar (no tank mates) and even then you're only JUST providing the oscar with it's minimum requirements. You'd also have to be very aware of the actual tank dimentions as it would have to be big enough to allow the fish to turn and swim properly.

Clown loach - Too big for that tank long term and should be in a bigger group.

Silver dollars - as above, too big for the tank long term AND should be in a bigger group.

The Plec - If it's a common then again it will easily outgrow that tank and IMO is already too big to be 'comfortable' in that tank.

Parrot fish...haven't a clue really. So I'll leave that to someone else.

Just out of interest (and please don't take this the way is may sound), but how long did the oscar and/or parrot fish live in that tank?

And roughly what sizes did they grow to?

Silly filter-At first I read that as 150 gals, would have been perfect then...
As curiosity says..Although I have found sd's and clowns can live fine by themselves (after the great whitespot outbreak of..2005?lol), but they are not as confident.
Parrot fish, big no no, need just as much as an oscar in most cases..Unless your on about the true parrot cichlid, which doesn't need quite so much.

My partner had 2 oscars in there a mahooosive plec and a parrot fish he had them for over a year before he gave it all up, met me then rehomed the empty tank to MOI! lol

Will think about selling the remaining stock then but keep the plec though.

How much do u reckon the 2 silver dollars and 2 clown loach should go for?

no way is i big enough for an oscar,how he kept to is beyond me, they suffer from stunting like other fish from being kept in poor conditions and to say that size is poor would be an understatment .

hey its fine better to find out now than further down the line and have to go about rehoming two potental giants, i have no idea about the parrots by the way as ive never kept them,
