went to what is going to be my new LFS Aquator in torquay. I rate it very highly no dead fish and extremly helpfully staff.

Any way Baby oscars should hopefully be ordered in i just got to wait.

Could have bought 3 year olds but would prefer to watch them grow.

I cant wait.

Can i have some ideas of what i can put in the tank aswell please!

Cheers Jimbo

3 oscars? So were looking at atleast 150g tank :) in that you could have a few nice sized fish really, somthing large-ish and shoaling (maybe congo tetra? not from the same bio-tope but big enough to dodge the dinner plate). Maybe a JD or jag cichlids aswell? Had any ideas of your own?

well i have a 260L tank and the ones they sould be getting in for me are 2-3 inches

So i wont need a new tank for a year or so.

Was thinking some convicts. maybe 2 senegals birchirs

yea i cant wait until i have enought room for a 150G currently living at home (im 19) and already have 2 tanks in my room along with everything else cant move.

Hoping to get rid of my wardrobe and getting a 150G tank.

Well hopefully try and get on the property ladder lol.

What type of cichlid is an oscar? new world, mawlili????

New World. I would but Convicts in with baby oscars, the convits wouild kill them. I dont know about brichirs, becasue i've never owned them.

Are you actually getting a 150 or is it a joke? Can't tell easily on forums.

I think you underestimate the time you will have in order to upgrade, 3 oscars will need a tank bigger tank in less than a year, depending on the dimensions you're looking at 8-10 months maximum if they are 3" already.

i was planning an upgrade when i have saved enough money up.

Do they grow that fast?? there where some in my new LFS that where about 10-12" long and they where 3 years old the guy said.

also if the convicts where of the same size wouldnt it be ok???

aww thats sweet, i got two ,not even 4 weeks ago, and they have grown considerably in that time,so much so that when i went to the lfs last monday i had to ask the guy if that was the same batch i got mine from, i was so shocked when he said yes, as the ones i left behind are really small, in comparison, they were bought at about 5 inches and are now very close to 6,and unfortuntaly when i was getting the tank, i went for the size rather than the footprint size of it, so the one they are in is only 250L, that wont last them a year!!, i decorated all nice and cosy for them, lol for those sweet little babies that i brought home, as you can see from the pic,the plants are now floating lol,and i will shortly have to remove the stones, but im not joking i wouldnt change a thing!they are considered family pets rather than fish, they eat better than i do,(honest) and they get daily water changes of 30%
my are currently living with 5 convicts and a common plec( have done from day 1),and at the moment theres no fighting at all going on ( tho goodness knows how long that will last) they hand feed from me, which is lovely.when i first had them they did take an almighy srop over a water change, and the dirty looks were unreal, but i dont get any of that now, they wait for me at the feeding side of the tank every morning, and always acknowledge me in the room ( swimming up and down or waiting for food) i think ,no i know you are going to love your oscars when you get them, along with all the fun and entertaiment they will give you in return
my oscar tank ( for now)

do i need to do do 30% daily water changes with oscars?? yours are looking spot on yea im hoping to get a 6x2x2 tank next year as a upgrade for them. that should hopefully be large enough.

im hoping to get some senegal birchirs aswell to watch grow up maybe even some convicts but i think im going to stick to oscars mainly

i dont think you have to, but i am only running 2 x fluval 4 plus filters in there at the moment ,so im a bit worried about the cleanliness and as you prob know oscars are prone to hole in the head, which is caused by stress and poor water conditions, so its just to be safe really, i am really planning ( when money allows) to upgrade to a tetratec ex 1200, but till then im happy with this way and they seem to be. i was told that the convicts wont be able to stay in there forever ,there may be some conflict, but theres none yet and they have plenty of hiding places so they are fine for now..
the good filtration is a must with these guys,as you can see on the floor of the tank, the mess, rotting food etc, and thats only today as i gravel vac everyday too.. but honestly, you will come back in a few months and say just the same, its a pleasure to do it, when you get what you do in return :):) thats a good size tank you are planning too, i think i will probably have to go higher ( custom) than wider as i just dont have the space- unless i decide that sitting on the floor is more comfy than the sofa lol :)
