Very Urgent! Lumps On Platies

Have you seen any fish pecking at the gill area or the body of the fish.

Until we see stats we will just be going round in circles.
It tell us members alot that why its so important to help rule things out.

I think i would bag the sick fish up and take it to the lfs for a skin scaping to see if you have a parasite in the tank.

do you know any websites about parasites?
thanks for your help.

I just startred to follow this post to see if I can help, but want to make sure I have the correct information before jumping in. Can you tell me if this information is correct?

In the Platties - 5 of the platties have lumps under their skin. One has what looks to be an ulcer (from the picture, an open sore). The fish have been seen scratching (aka flashing) on objects in the tank. Some of them have pink gills, others have white. Some are also becoming lethargic and hiding. Also, some finrot is going on.

In the dead danio - an open ulcer, fin rot, and loss of balance.

EDIT: You have also said your water stats are fine. Can you please post the exact numbers? I have seen too many people say they are ok when they are not (don't take it personally, i do this with everyone unless i know them very well)

yes correct.

There are about 4 platies that seem ill.

I have lost 4 platies. One last week and a the other 3 a few weeks before.

The male in the picture with the ucler, has two lumps under his skin. he seems lethargic and hiding.

One other platy has signs of fin rot and hides alot. he has no signs of lumps.

Another one has finrot and stays near the top of the water in one place.

the other platy has a small lump on her side.

With one of the platies that died, she loss her balance and had fin rot.

A few of my fish have been flicking and have pink gills.

thanks

thanks wilder

In the old tank the platies are in:

Ammonia = 0
nitrite = 0
nitrate = 40 ( because of tap water and i have been told not to worry about this)

Does this help?

Ok, from reading that, I would say you have two things going on in your tank at once. For this reason, please tell us your exact water stats (i like to see numbers, not they are "ok" because i have had people tell me they are fine when they are not).

First of all, it sounds like you have a bacterial infection going on in the tank. The ulcer, fin rot, and swim bladder problems (loss of balance) are all symptoms of this. I am not familiar with the UK meds, so listen to Wilder's advice on that, she knows them very well.

Secondly, it sounds like you have a parasite infestation going on as well. Fish flashing is usually one of the big signs, and since you can't see them, my guess is either gill flukes or skin flukes. Both are common parasites. They seem to have infected the gills of the fish judging by the color (pale gills as well as red, inflamed gills can be a sign of parasites. Again, listen to Wilder on this. She knows her UK meds very well.

As for the lumps, i have no clue. However, lets look at it this way. There are three treatable categories of fish illnesses. Bacterial, parasitic, and fungal. True fungal infections are rare, and I do not believe you are dealing with one. That leaves parasitic and bacterial. You already will be treating both of those, so hopefully the lumps resolve themselves while treating the other illnesses.

Ok, water stats look good, so they are definately flashing from parasites, not poor water quality.

Fine, good luck.

Note
Do not use Gyrodactol if pH values are below 7 and carbonate hardness is below 8-10°d CH. Harden soft water correspondingly using JBL AquaDur plus. Use only half the dose for aquariums without ground and fittings.

I have interpet no. 7 anti slime and velvet.

Will this cure parasites?

Just found another platy dead.
