Vacuuming Gravel

Oh my. Put the entire siphon and tube into your tank. The tube fills with water. Cover the end of the tube with your thumb while it is under water. Take it out of the tank and direct it into the bucket/buckets/whatever you're putting the water into. Remove your thumb. Voila! A siphon. When the bucket fills, cover the tube with your thumb and drop it back in your tank while you drain your bucket. I don't use a huge bucket, because I'm just a wee female and probably couldn't carry it. As for stirring up the crud in your gravel and making a cloudy mess, put some live plants in your tank and then leave that crud alone. Your plants will love you for it and you'll save loads on unnecessary chemical fertilizers. If your siphon is repeatedly stopping, your bucket may not be far enough below your tank.
