Updated Remodled Planted Tank! (7/9/08)

I'm a bit confused about this tank tbh!!

I LOVE how its planted but at the same time the plants seem to take over the tank??

maybe a decent shoal of rummy nose or cardinal tetras would solve that problem? with that many plants you could overstock without a problem as long as there was enough room for them to swim!

My water is as hard as it can be, liquid rock actually, and I've never had luck keeping a neon alive...... i really wanted to get cardnials, but they are hard to find and I'm asuming just as hard to keep alive. I think It is overstocked, and once durring a power outage 3 fish died from lack of oxygen All of the fish were snails and shrimp were at the surface trying to get air. To bad I didn't get to it in time to save the poor fish who died. Now I have battery operated air pumps just for that situation.

The plants really have taken over, but the fish seem to like it that way.

I actually read that you could use rabbit poop as fertilizer from an aquarium book. I think it might have been 500 things you can do to have a better fresdhwater aqurium, not sure if that's the right book, I've read so many....

i think it looks really beautiful, ive never really had any luck with plants ( my fish eat them ) so i am very envious of yours, well done looks stunning

I love the overgrown look of the tank... Bet the fish love exploring in there

But..... I really don't like the background or is there no background and that's just your wallpaper/painted wall?

It is an acrylic tank and the back pannel of it is blue. I also hate it, do you have sugestions on how to change it?

Hey TK,

love the tank, looks fantastic, and it seems to be thriving (poo does the job!). I love the tiger lily it's a lot darker than mine. Also what is that spectacular fish above it? If you want a more structured look maybe plant in groups of 3's or more instead of sporadic plantings but remember nature is never perfect and not always neat and tidy it's why we love it.

I think the bristlenose is a female...

Regards Darren

P.S. if the fish are happy thats all that matters

That fish is a male cherry barb They are very nice and bright red!! Maybe tomorrow I'll try to rearange the plants better then give you a updated photo.
Thanks!

tank looks really nice. i like the wild look of all the plants, it gives the fish tons of cover to run and hide. :good:

Hi TK,

your tank looks good and all that matters is you are happy with it and your fish would love exploring. Are you running DIY co2?

Regards Darren

P.S. with regards to cherry barbs are they fin nippers? I don't know if they are available here. I meant to tell you I am about to set up my 75 liter tank any suggestions? was thinking an asian theme with lace gouramis and something else :)

I do run a DYI Co2 and I dose excell for an aditionmal carbon source. My plants grow like weeks!

The Cherry Barbs that I have are very peacefull and I have never seen them nip fins, except the males chace each other a alot they never do any damage. They just don't want to share the ladies!!

The Asian Theme sounds cool Here is a Thread of someone's asian tank with a log if you want to view it. I'll have to see what I can come up with for sugeasstions though... I do like the bambo poles in the tank of the thread I posted.

Still looks magnificant....... You've got green fingers obviously.... That plant right against the front glass in the last 2 pics...... I know there is a way to train the plant onto rocks.... What plant is it and how do I get it to grow onto the rocks.... I have a stubborn one which refuses to.

The Java fern, Have you tied it to a rock? You can tie it to a rock and it should just start growing and eventually the roots will hold on the the rock. Mine doesn't grow very fast. Do you use fertilizers?
