I think this is unpopular but I don’t know for sure. In my opinion colorful fish look ugly. To me they just look too artificial and are too flashy. I like the less flashy fish with colors like olive green, black, gray, green, etc.
I somewhat agree. I love the colorful fish but I wouldn't want a tank full of them. Maybe I'd do a group or pair/trio of colorful fish and then all the other fish are toned down in coloration.

But coming from someone who doesn't like colorful fish what do you think of my fish?

This is just the male. (You can see the female in the top photo behind the male) thought I may get your honest opinion

For looks I give your fish a 7 out of 10. In my opinion he is about 40% too colorfull.

Who the hell has a 5 gallon saltwater tank??? It could be done I suppose, but I see no purpose in that at all! Not even sure what fish you'd put in it! ????
I saw someone who made an awesome 5 gallon saltwater coral aquarium. It looked epic!

Have you heard the good news about Goodeid livebearers?

You have to check them out. The finest of greys and greens in a wonderful to watch and keep fish group. Olive your wildest wishes in one Genus.

Just for the fun of it, here's some convergent evolution from a West African Fundulopanchax nigerianus killie - a world away from your gudgeons... but not. I love seeing this stuff!

LOL! That is rather funny. :)

As to many doing too many water changes I agree and don't as it all depends on the tank. A tank with artificial plants will require more water changes than a planted tank. Also a tank that is over populated will need more water changes. Also a tank with sponge filters will need more water changes than a tank with under gravel filtration. When I lived in Texas I had a 55 gallon tank that went over two years without a real water change. Vacuumed the substrate when needed and replaced water lost due to evaporation but no actual water changes for over two years.

Part of me wonders why we remove a bunch of water and replace with water that we treat to try to make just like the water we removed.
the number one reason to keep nitrates near zero is to grow fish quickly. According to a guy I used to
know that raised discus, he'd buy babies, feed like crazy and do twice a week large water changes to speed up growth so he could sell them
