I have green water..
It will not go away..
I do water changes..
But it is here to stay.
I do not add ferts
I do not add Co2
The duckweed is dying
And green water is thriving.
Oh my gosh.
I feel like crying..

It is n my 55 gallon in the basement with 9 cores of two species, 9 Black skirt Tetras, 3 Koolie loaches, 1 otto catfish, and a partridge in a pear tree. The GW, I don’t know why it is there and I don’t know why it will not go away.

Originally it was not a poem when I types it, when I proof read it I realized it easily could become one if I hit the enter key and deleted some ellipse here an there. Haha.

Hey what catfish is that in your Avi?

I had to resort to UV light to clear mine up. Nothing else seemed to work. Have heard barley straw can help. When I had mine it was like pea soup in the morning but crystal clear come night time - very odd indeed.

huh? barely straw? will regular haywork? and if I remove it will it jsut come back?

Nope, got to be barley straw. It is used in ponds by placing it in the filter and it does work very well in clearing green water. Don't know how well it works in tanks though. If you have UV then it won't come back otherwise it may or may not. Sorry can't be any more help.

-sigh- where the devil am i gonna get barely straw. haha. I suppose I will go to the good LFS tomorrow when i get 5 more black neons.

Not very common at this time of year as it is mainly used by pond keepers in spring time. Best bet is to try some pond suppliers. I have seen someone selling barley straw extract which is for green water. No idea if it works or not.

Lots of daphnia will consume green water algae, but unfortunately fish love eating daphnia.

Cant' you bung in a load of hornwort?
Have a black out. No lights on, cover tank with black bin bags. Ive seen that work.
How about water hyacinths and other floating plants like it?

I have duckweed.. but I can't dose ferts so it dies hah hence the "The duckweed is dying" haha.

I have hornwort will that work?
