Hi all.
Bought a couple of paradise fish last week, i asked the LFS for a male and female as i have read that two males can be aggressive. They said they would do their best as they are hard to tell apart (not sure if that was true). Bought them home and were fine, although spent alot of time at the top of the tank taking breaths from above surface of the water, i was guessing this was normal. Then 6 days later one of them was not moving very much and didnt go for food when i put it in, and then next day was dead :(
The other one was still fine until 3 days later the same thing happened, went off the food then next morning was dead :(
I bought 4 peppered corydoras at the same time and they are all fine, are paradise fish hard to keep (water quality, temperature?)
Put me off getting anymore of them for now...

They are Lanyrinth fish which means they come up to the top of ye water to take in air. I had a male and 2 females before in a 120 litre tank, sand on the bottom, fluval U2 internal filter. They lived with a bristle nose plec, 5 Odessa barbs and 5 rosy barbs. I did weekly 30% water changes and sand/gravel vacuum using a syphon. I use and always have used nutrafin aqua safe water dechlorinater to tank all the bad unwanted substances out of the tap water. I have however just ordered seachem prime instead after some good advice off here. It's only £15 for a 500ml bottle and 5ml treats 200 litres of water. Also is your tank cycled? How long was it set up before adding the fish?

Also if your tank is fully cycled then you could also try adding an air stone to the tank to oxygenate the water more

How long has your tank been set up?
How did you cycle it?
What are your water perameters?

Tom

The tank is 180Litre has been set up for 8 months. I do weekly water changes of 25litres, whilst hoovering gravel etc. I will let you know stats later - last time i checked they were fine.
