so I have 2 “flying foxes” Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus I bought as canary’s when I restarted my 1st tank, around 4 years ago… I always assumed it was a male and female, as one was always 1/3 smaller than the other… I don’t think they typically get along with their own type, and the bigger one always chased around the smaller, they are in a 55 gallon tank, with lots of cover… after a few years, they seemed to start tolerating each other… in the last couple months, the smaller one has grown to match the size of the bigger one… just seems strange to have a growth spurt 3.5 to 4 years later???

the smaller one was always more vividly colored ( they are an unremarkable looking looking fish, just the smaller has always been more vivid ) after the growth spurt, there was no change to the coloration, so I can still tell them apart, even though they are now the same size…

anyone else ever notice a growth spurt years later???

AI says these can live from 8-10 years, so this growth spurt was noticed at about half life…
