just come across this. sad as it may seem, i was watching QVC today and saw a demo of this stuff, and the solvent too. the guy said it was Aquarium safe. i have contacted the supplier and am waiting confirmation of this actually being "Aquarium safe". if it is, even at £20 a pop, it could be quite a find! Anybody tried it? thing that gives me cause for concern is it states its anti fungal, not something we usually want in a tank. this could just be a property of the polymer used though.

are you planning on using i underwater?
lol no not at the moment, but imagine if your tank split, i have had one do that, even as a temp fix, it could be invaluable. and in theory it will bond better than silicone, so it may be the way to go on ordinary repairs too! solvent looks good too, well if you want to clean old silicone off before repair.

If you seen it on a shoppin' channel, i wouldnt trust it tbh :p

anti-fungal is no good for aquarium use. better stick with aquarium silicone/epoxy or GE silicone I for window and door.

Food safe - conforms to ISEGA Standards
taken from the linked-to site. I'd say from that that it is safe to use in a fish tank, as I was under the impression that items certified for food use could not leach anything, harmful or otherwise, when soaked in water :good:

Just my opinion

my thoughts exactly!!

@celaeno, unless you know why CT1 is anti fungal, you can't assume it is unsafe or safe. it may simply be because there is no purchase on the sealant for the fungus to hang on too. and it had occurred to me too, that's why my opening post, stated i had made contact to confirm the claim! till it is confirmed to be safe, it is nothing more than a interesting idea.

The food safe part makes me think it would be ok, but not all standards are created equal. I can find many products that conform to ISEGA standards, I can't find what those standards actually are, even on the English portion of ISEGA's website (isega.de).

lol, quite a job to find the standards, and cost too, £130 for the information. it is all contained in ISO 17025! and no i did not buy it. so i am still none the wiser! and still awaiting an email from the suppler. if i get no luck with them, i will contact QVC the claim, after all, was made on their program.

this whole thing may turn out to be a waste of time. but just because we have used something for 30 years or more, does not mean that nothing better will ever be invented.

whats your point tango?

I would ask for the professional version of the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). The one that is linked on the site has a lot of loose ends... ie the unknowns, especially around long term health effects and environment effects. This is most likely talking about the uncured paste, but I believe they should have an MSDS for the cured polymer as well.

Ox :good:

I don't think anyone is going to dispute that something better might come along but when something makes a claim to be something that is normally unsafe for aquariums it's not going to get a lot of people leaping at it. Besides, you don't know what the spokesman considers to be aquarium safe. To them aquarium safe could just mean its not going to leak.

indeed so. no follow up email has been received. my deduction from that is that despite the claim, this stuff is not aquarium safe. off to contact QVC now. it was no their program the claim was made, perhaps they may encourage them to reply. I am not really bothered if it does or does not work. they made the claim, so it should be backed up or withdrawn.

ok after an email. this product is perfectly safe to use on aquariums. now he did not give any details. but i have an email here, clearly stating the product is Aquarium safe. would i now use it? hell yes! a polymer that can seal a tank, whilst it is still full of water. who wouldn't have a tube around just in case?
I do however see an experiment coming on!
