To Rescue Or Not To Rescue! - Got Him! With Pic

Poor little chap :(

Unfortunately you never know how aggressive a fish is going to be, being wild caught might add to the aggressiveness of the diadema. Because they are rarer than other acara/aequidens species, you dont have as much information on their personalities, I would guess its more closely related to the rivulatus (Gold Saum/GT) than a Pulcher.

Combined with the HRP, together they obviously over power the other fish.

HRP is not in the same tank at the moment I seeded a filter and set up a little 10g to work out what to do with him. Ive spent the morning forum searching on various forums I scan over (only post here :good:) and it would seem the net profiles and breeding documents along with the one book article I found lol conflict with whats said which is quite common to be fair.

Most concerning part I found was that she is going to get much bigger than I thought though being a female she might not make the full 8 inches that Ive been reading people keeping them at.....I think that tank upgrade might have to be quite soon.

One thing Im really miffed about is I found a really good thread on a Diadema Biotope and while my nic wouldnt be welcome in it I might start to think about mimicing it though to be fair as ever Im tempted to go a totaly different direction yet again.

Oh no am so sorry. It was only one fish That died right? Here you were ready to help this fish and your others were not going to let you. Some fish are just jerks. Sadly your are they just could not play nice. I did a search for Aequidens diadema and you are not kidding they are hard to find good info on. All I found was they are aggressive with their own kind.

I'm really sorry about the madness.

Yeah it was all the A.Diademas evil work. Its quite a weird feeling but I am utterly disgusted at her I know its kind of just natural for her but the way she did it was just horrific.

Since I decided to dig as possibly far as I can to find info on her Ive found the following -
Gets to 8 inches plus found one reaching 10 inches but that was an alpha male in a big tank. - I thought it was maxed at 5 inches
Will be nasty to smaller fish - Kind of knew that but wasnt sure as to what extent.

Im tempted to move more to a CA cichlid approach as they are a bit more robust but that buggers up my plans for when I get my 6 footer.

So anyone reading this if you can think of a SA robust cichlid that will be happy for about a year in a 240 liter tank answers on a postcard please!! Only thing Im thinking of at the moment is a Threadfinned Acara thats a bit bigger than her but not sure because at the end of the day I dont want her getting killed or injured.

if the fish you have are getting along don't mess with it if the are happy. I would not get any new fish. Wait till you have the larger tank .I know waiting is hard to do. I too am waiting for a 5Ft or 6ft tank. Only reason I got my New Geo B. was because he needed my help. So for now I'm trying to hold my self back from looking at new fish till I get a new tank.

hmm yeah maybe - I might stay away from cichlids for now but I do want more fish in there as it does look a bit bare at times. Now I have the 10g set up Im going to keep it there and then that way I can swap away stuff thats not working out, I can usually tell the signs of aggression - like serious aggression now so I know what to look for.

The main reason being I have no idea when my new tank is coming it could be upto 18 months away maybe even longer so I would rather stock this tank as you would normally then reconsider the stocking when the time comes for the new tank.

I see. Do you have any difters? They always add some life to a tank that looks empty.

Ive tried blue tetras and red rainbows and the acara has eaten both lol so going to try silver dollars because of their size or bleeding heart tetras or giant danio because of their speed.

I know you want to keep it SA, so like I suggested before, either try colombian tetras, they are pretty fast or I still think your best bet is giant danios, after trying to chase them for a while, I think the Diadema would give up and leave them alone, as I doubt it could catch them.

yeah I think it might be the danios. all the columbians I see locally are just too small off to LFS in about 20 mins (after the drive :lol) so see what we find mainly going to take HRP and get plants but see what hes got.

Well you have that 10 gal you could use to grow out some fish if you need to. But a school of fish I think would be a nice touch good luck.
