To Rescue Or Not To Rescue! - Got Him! With Pic

lovely fish but watch em once they settle in as they can be very territorial/ agressive to other fish i had to remove my 2 from my 100g as they turned into a couple of demons. not that it means your will do this but just be aware and make sure there are plenty of territorys available .

Funny my blue acara keeps my new Geo Brasiliensis in check. They all get along fine but my severum is the wimpyest fish in the tank and one of the largest but she gets harassed from time to time by the new guy.

That is a really pretty fish. Hope all goes well.

Thanks guys, I hope this guy gets his balls soon cos hes getting quite beaten around by my acara. Got the tank lights out now and that seems to have helped but she really is being mean.

I really dont get why cichlids are like this, why do they just pick one "*****" fish I mean I understand its common and that it happens but why lol. Im hoping that this is just them "welcoming" them to the play pen but hope its over soon.

When weve got the house move done in a few months hoping for my 6x2x2 and will get him some buddies :)

My blue acara was being a jerk too. Chased my
new fish around like crazy and he us bigger then the BA. It's been a week now and yet my BA still ttys to
chase the new guy not he does not run just kind of turns him body from him and slowy gets out of the way. No nipping but my ba has chilled out. So give it a few days they will get use to eachother. They need to set up their pecking order.

Well done -that's a lovely fish and I am sure will be a real beauty once it setles down. I guess some bickering is to be expected with cichlids. There is no such thing as a "peaceful" cichlid tank -they are real characters, that's the fun of owning them!Good luck to the new Geo. Let us know how it gets on.

Its just their nature, the acara is showing its dominance to the new comer, it should settle, if not, do as nelly suggested, bag them both, do a complete rescape, release the suri 1st, hour or so later, release the acara, put them both on an even footing.

Yeah going to do a rescape on Saturday got a plan worked out need to get some pipes etc to make better caves, sure the plecs will appreciate it as well! Afraid at the moment my tank might be a case of form before function and the plants are just not surviving being dug up anymore so need to work out something to compensate it.

Well done on rescuing your lovely fish :good:

Have you definitely got a Blue Acara, as I always thought my GT was a BA, and she HATED the Geo Brasil I bought. She tolerates all my other fish at the moment, but really really hated him with a passion...

I'm the one with the blue acara. Wills has a differant kind of acara. Yes I'm 100% sure I have a blue acara he just chases the new fish no nipping. This is just how cichlids are they can be bossy no matter how "peacful" they should be.

Wills I can't wait to see home photos of your new fish.

I just read my last post I realy need to reread before I post. Stinking iTouch is hard to type on.

Going to wait for more pics till the rescape ;) his fins are healing up a bit now but his eye is quite nasty not sure how its happened as he had a slight cloud over them when he got into the tank. His colours are a bit getter today and the stress bars are gradually going. A.Diadema has laid off slightly.

When I redo the tank going to take the cichlids out and re introduce them gradually with a few mins between.

It will go in the order off - G.Surinimensis - Nic - HRP - A.Diadema

Going to give HRP an go he.

In other news my girlfriend is near breaking point for the 6x2x2 :D

Good plan.

What do you mean your girlfriend is at breaking point? Have you been asking for one for a long time?

I bet the stress of being moved then chased made the eye worst. It's amazing how fast fins heal with good water my geo is already looking way better then he did a week ago. Mine has hole in head. I have never had to deal with this before but it's getting better too.

Yeah Ive wanted a 6x2x2 for ages but we only live in a 2 bed flat and while its in a really nice place and we are happy the lounge is just not big enough for that size tank but once we move hopefully in the summer its a go! I really really want some sevs and more geos now a lot of my favorite fish are generally speaking either in the 9-15 inch range or the .5-2 inch range  at the minute if I am brutally honest some of my fish are compromises but its whats fair to me and them so Im happy over all with them.

Just really really hope this fighting gets sorted soon. My nic has nearly fully healed up now her fins are nearly back to normal in about 3 days I think the aggression over all has cut down and the geo is now much more welcome in mid water.

My LFS has some big mother amazon sword plants in that are nice, they have really long stems and big surface leaves so hoping that they will help a lot and going to pack the corners out with giant valis - also going to take out some wood because its really branchy and for all it looks good and fills space it does nothing to break up line of sight. I want to get some bamboo tubing as well I think that could help going to make a tunnel network to sit under my roots and bury them. Should be able to get that tomorrow if I get finished at uni early.

Bloody fish who would have em eh :p

Big chunks of wood work well I love rocks thoes work well for my fish. I have a mid size sword I just got and put it in the middel. It helped. Good luck with everything. Hope you get a nice new place with space for a bigger tank.

The fish drama should be over in a week or 2 unless you have a real punk of a fish.

Yeah 2 weeks is my usual settle in time just hope nothing major happens inbetween really cant wait to get to the LFS on saturday wish I could go tomorrow but other responsibilities :(

Just turned the tank lights on and found the geo upside down but still breathing. I cant really do anything to save them so going to have to put them down gutted :(

They are so badly beaten up it must have happened in the night, a lot of blood injuries base of the dorsal fin is bloody, ventral fins nearly gone and one pectoral fin nearly gone. The way they cant stay upright makes me think that the fight has damaged their swim bladder.

I feel terrible, I genuinely wanted to give them a good home and I really didnt think this would happen. Afraid its sealed the HRPs fate as well hes going to have to go I really dont want to risk this happening. Ill keep the 10g up and running just incase ready for adding more fish, this acara has killed so many fish now I really didnt think that they were meant to be that aggressive but then again there isnt that much information on them.

Wills :(
