I just barely meet the maximum dose for aquarium salt, but yeah, i use it as a preventative. A lot of people don't, but yet, a lot of people do. IMO it's one of those things that's just purely choice.

well, if it's what platy's do, then okay. Lol just make sure to watch for it!

I'm REALLY considering gettingg a snail. Lol, a nerite snail I'll lookin' up on it currently.

Oh cool! at petsmart, I was looking at the "mystery" snails.
They are pretty cool. I just like fish. I already have hermit crabs, LoL.
Would you keep your snail ob Blue or Red's side?
Or get one for both sides?

I'm considering nerite snails, since they're actually more tolerant of salts. Unless someone drops by and convinces why I should get mystery snails, lol. (Apple snails are out of the question D: ) Still conflicted. Oh well, lol.

You know, actually, I might just get one mystery snail anad one nerite snail, and one on each side. But I'll probably get this after my betta are lessed stressed. And *according to what I've read* (this means prove me wrong anytime lol) mysteries tend to stay at the bottom, and nerites on the glass, during their active hours. For a singled 5gallon tank, this'll probably even out nicely. (I'm prepared for the so-called escape artist snails) I'm gonna buy them algae wafers, though. Bettas might eat 'em (the wafers, I mean), but I'll find a way haha. I'll say when I'm gonna get them.

Apple snails get too big (no thanks), poop a lot (all snails do, but you know, might as well put it here, lol), and aren't the best for algae, etc. Too many cons for me. Mystery stay smaller though, I THINK it's like an apple snail that just stays small? And they're a "mystery" because they came out of nowhere. Or something like that, I don't really care for origins LOL. Nerite snails are usually UP to 1'' but are supposedly insane algae killers and stuff. Thought they'd be useful too, sometimes I keep the lights on for too long (never trust yourself if you say you're gonna "nap" at 12AM with the tank lights still on because I keep forgetting they're on). Lol

Oh LoL. I saw them at petco while getting my platy, and let me say, petco has an amazing stock of fish. Or the one I was at, anyways. Petsmart does, too.
But anyway, snails. LoL. Snails are pretty cool. They are fancinating. But idk, I just dont want one lol. I thought about it, but I wanted another fish instead.
My bro (18) is in college and has a "friend" (I do not think this is his friend, I think its his secret girlfriend LoL) Who has always wanted goldfish, and she tried to win some in a fair, and couldn't, so when i bought my platy, he bought her 2 goldfish.
How sweet!
But, anyways, now he/his "friend" own two goldfish, Barny and Percy.

Hopefully he has a 30 gallon tank! Lol. Or 40. Not sure. But it's something similar to that. Ooooh, scandalous lol xD

I love Petco. IMO, Petco > Petsmart in terms of buying things, shopping, etc. But they both suck with bettas (here, at least). And yeah, they have better diversity. But Petsmart has a bigger diversity in buying stuff haha. At least both my Petcos and Petsmart are soooo close together (A car drive = not even a minute. A walk, however, may be 5-10minutes. But still doable)

Oh BTW just some stuff to consider for salt (some people mess this up a lot)
-Never add any extra unless you're doing a water change. Salt NEVER evaporates out. If you take out 1 gallon of salt, REPLACE with 1 gallon of salt, no more.
-If your water level gets lower (evaporation), the salt is still in there.

I think too much aq salt will stress out a betta fish. I put a littttttle bit too much, and my betta got cramped fins. Water changed some out, he was good as new.

And thats the problem with researching - Not all my questions are answered!!!! I'M TOO CURIOUS and I've got too many questions to be comfortable getting them. What the heck. Lol. Well I have info on mystery snail, just not nerite snail. But I'm pretty set now. Not sure when I'll be getting them. Maybe in a couple weeks, since I've got testing. Hmm.

Hmmm. Since I've put aquarium salt it, my betta seems more active. He was still aclimating, and staying in his hidey hole, but he was been swimming lately.

Oh cool! I dont really like live plants. Just....personal reference. I like to control how it looks and I just....dont like live plants LoL.

LoL, what made you want plants?
Idk LoL. I didnnt wanna add too much.
They are doing fine, the only time I've seen danger is when the platy went into the betta's hidey hole. Ya know, thats like his own lil house. So my betta chased him exactly half of the length of the tank, then retreated.
Is it normal:
For the first week or two for my betta to stay in his hidey hole a lot?
And is it normal my betta only swims and has never been to one side of the tank? He's only been on one half, and never ever has swam to the other side.

The first couple of weeks, fish will always be kinda funny. It's seriously great he has a place, though, it will definitely help with his security. Adding plants definitely helps - bettas aren't fond of open spaces, etc...

idk, it was like one moment "ew, plants, too muh work." then all of a sudden "Plants..will look...pretty......." hahahaha

As for the one sided thing - I've heard of them doing that, but not sure exactly why... do you think it's because of the platy on the other side? Well bettas are definitely territorial. It may be because of the other fish, it's saying "This is my side grrrrrrrrrr", which is probably also why he chased him insanely out of the hidey-hole.

I'm getting suuuuuuch a bad case of MTS right now ;___; I want more tanks...*breaths heavily* but I can't. Yet. lol. I'm seriously going to go crazy over the summer.
