To Divide, Or Not To Divide.

nessar, if you're talking about those smaller homes volleyball_rox just showed, it's sad to say many people DO permanently house the bettas in them. Until they pass off.
Yeah.
Cupid is veeerrrryyyy happy!
He swims about, with wonderful color. He keeps flaring at his relfection, is this normal? Like he goes up to the back and flares.
I'm soo glad that I made him happy and healthy.
And his water is perfectly clean.
Thanks for all the advice and nudging towards a bigger tank!
Without you, Cupid would still be in a cold, small, unfiltered bowl.
:good:

But they werent designed for that! Its annoying when people take a good idea and make it bad :(

Volleyball_rox, I'm so glad he's doing much better!! The flaring will pass off. So glad! :D

nessar, EXACTLY. That's the shame in it all. "Oh! How convenient! $5 and I can have a fish whooooooooooooooooo" No. It's very sad...

I understand completely. Kinda like when the chinese had goldfish in ponds, and on a special occasion, would remove the prized fish and place it in a glass bowl and set it as a center piece, when guests came over. After guests left, the fish would be returned to the pond.
But the guests didn't know that, and the fish bowl was born.

Yeah. Good. And you can be his.....godmother LoL.
My platy is the hyperest thing I've ever seen. He is literally bouncing off his aquarium walls. And instead of taking the time to turn around, he swims in reverse.
My betta is unaffected by him so far (knock on wood.)

I didnt know that, thats pretty cool.

I saw a fish bowl that was 5 gallons on the internet yesterday. But its about £35 not including postage, and the postage probs would be a lot. Sooooo tempted, but not sure if bowls are still bad if they are bigger... getting a heater and filter in would be a challenge.

Yeah, I read that somewhere.....hm.
I was going to get a bigger fishbowl, but saw the tetra 5 gallon aquarium starter kit from walmart for 30$ and it came with a filter and light and hood.
What I did was add 5 lbs of gravel, then added two neon hollowed rocks/caves that I call hidey holes, one on each side, two sea shells for looks, and in the very middle of the tank, a quart sized fishbowl with rainbow gravel inside and a plant. It was woodstock's idea :)
it's really cool, like a house and lawn, and a private area for my orange 1 inch platy; Flash, or my blue male crowntail betta; Cupid.
Plus the filter and light.
It's a pretty awesome set up, if I may say so myself.
But yeah, back on track, fish bowls that are big would be good, exept the roundness and the challenge of fitting a heater and filter and possibly a light.
So what's you set up and fish friends?
:p

Lol didn't finish telling that story on my friend's pregnant platy. Long story short, she got a pregnant one, didn't know what to do, but the platy already ate all the babies. 30 minute dilemna, the end. lol.

A 5 gallon bowl? Doesn't sound so attractive :\ i wouldn't get it anyways. Everything would still be hard to do, etc. I guess "AT LEAST" it's 5 gallons.

Volleyball_rox, I'd love to be the godmother 8D And this godmother demands pictures. Lol! But nah, if you can't, it's fine. I'll imagine. *Imagines*. Fail. ;) Hahahaha

I actually like the visual of a bowl and a light. Pretty "aesthetically pleasing" (i'm seeing that everywhere today, what?) haha

Yup. Ate them? Wow.
I will try again later to post pics :good:
Cause now I have a math test to study for, a science test to study for, a science assignment to do, a 4 minute long speech read just off notecards to practice, 6 chapters of Number The Stars to read, 1 plot diagram, and some other homework I don't remember.  :look:   :X :X

Homework to do that you don't even know. Tell me about it. Lol

And yeah, apparently you need to buy a special breeding thing for platy's as they tend to eat their young. Or if there isn't enough hiding places if you don't buy the breeding thing. Apparently. That's what I got in about 5 minutes, lol.

Hello Volleyball_Rox - did you say your platy was bouncing off the tank walls? Like, does she rub against them or dart around in an unusual fashion? This can be a sign of ammonia in the water, or the parasite Ich (whitespot). personally i'd go with ammonia as you're fish-in-cycling.

Have you been changing the water each day like suggested? even 20% will make a difference :)

No no, just active very hyper like she was at the pet store. Just hyper in general.

Oh okay lol.
My water is already cloudy, guess it is time to do my 20% water change. :)
Not cloudy, just not crystal clear. :S

Well it's a petstore, it could actually be sick. Do you use aquarium salt? I'd recommend it (Not sure how that'll go for platys though, so look that up a little). It could be ick straight from the petstores. Whoever says the fish at petstores are plain A-okay are just silly. Lol! My first betta came home with velvet, wouldn't be surprised if your platy did too! -Gasp-

Hm. Ich? No white spots? I've read up on platys and they are usually like this, hyper.
And I didn't know if you can add aquarium salt with bettas. Like Ik for treatment, but you can have it constantly? Freshwater fish, and uncomfy with constant salt?
Platys, coral platys, do not require salt, but are okay with it.

I just barely meet the maximum dose for aquarium salt, but yeah, i use it as a preventative. A lot of people don't, but yet, a lot of people do. IMO it's one of those things that's just purely choice.

well, if it's what platy's do, then okay. Lol just make sure to watch for it!

But guess what?
I'm REALLY considering gettingg a snail. Lol, a nerite snail :) I'll lookin' up on it currently.
