Tizer's 90 Litre Tiger Barb / Krib Tank

I think you could do with something tall in there to break it up such as vallis as suggested or a pice of bog wood or something

Aye deffinately, waiting on pay day at the moment, bit skint this month so just making good with what i have for now. I've gone a bit mental on bogwood in my main tank, i'm going to try and keep my eyes out for some smaller pieces, more branch like than stump like this time. Certainly needs some height in there. I'll address that in a few weeks once i know its cycled 100%.

looks awesome :good:

Day 7: ammonia 0.15, nitrate 0.15 - Slight showing of nitrite tonight, which im hoping is caused by the ammonia crunchers growing. Leaving until morning, levels not harmful.

Day 8: ammonia 0.15, nitrate 0.25 - 60% water change done.

Added 8 more barbs from the same tank in lfs, decent size school now.

Kribs in main tank colouring up, might just let them spawn again in there for now while i mess about with this tank and get it planted in a few weeks.

just revisited this thread

for a tank so simple and in early stages I really like it. You;ve persuaded me to buy some tiger barbs today :good:

They are a very curious fish and certainly dont shy away from movement in the room. If i wave at them, they all rush to the glass lol.

Greedy gits too, they demolished half a cube of frozen bloodworm in seconds, it didnt even get a chance to melt.

Having a look at plants today, i'll probably go for the same as i have in my main tank, java ferns, big amazonswords at the back and lots of anubias on the edge of rocks.

Im going to keep the rocks i put in and attempt to cover the valleys inbetween so the kribs and young can mooch about on the bottom and feed.

I really dont want to get into CO2 other than a little flourish excel every morning but i need to look into why my Crypt Wendtii's are developing holes in the leaf and effectively melting. I've got 2x38W lights in the main tank, they are on quite a lot, so im going to cut down to 6 hours a day see if they get better. If it works, i think i'll stick some in here too.

Is flourish excel recommended for most plants Tizer ?

Im going to lightly plant my new tank and was wondering if i should get some. Im the same as you i want to avoid Co2

A lot of people recommend it as a good carbon substitute for co2. Im really just testing it myself at the moment, only started dosing it daily on Monday. I've seen my crypts pop out with more stems/leaves near the base but i dont know if its due to this stuff. Trouble is, as i mentioned the more mature leaves are developing holes and melting.

Im also using Easylife Profito as my fertilizer which only goes in the tank once every two weeks.

I could really do with someone with a good plant knowledge giving me some tips, no point putting plants in if i cant keep them alive. I know if i use compressed gas Co2 the options of plants increases massively, im just not sure i want to splash out on the kit.

This is my main tank:

Its doing "ok" but so far the amazon swords i have tried have all died, and i cant find anything else with big leaves thats hardy and doesnt need co2 injection. If the Riccia i have floating on the top stays alive i'll be happy :) Really love to see some of this grow so i can use it on the small tank.

Nice tank Tizer.

Let me know the outcome of the flourish when you have made a decision if its worth it. Fingers crossed it helps out.

Tiger barb's are stunning little guys. They look SOOOO good in a shoal! I wish i could house some :( May have to get a little tank for some. Dam wish i had not seen this topic now

Hehe, i know. I am really looking forward to my new tank being cycled so i can get my fist Tiger Barbs :)

Fantastic thread here Tizer, makes a great read!

Hope its useful!

Im sat here watching these 20 Tigers swim about, i think while they are young they are ok in this tank, but they might enjoy the 4 footer a lot more when older. They are super active little fish!

Day 9: ammonia 0, nitrate 0.25 - 60% water change done. Looks like im over half way there, really hoping the nitrite processing kicks in within the next 10 days, i'm off to Barbados on the 27th and the father inlaw will have to take over the water changes if not!

(The half tube is tested tapwater for a comparison)

After doing some reading about custom Co2 projects last night i've emailed the London Beer Company to see if they will supply a co2 canister to an Oxford postcode. Its doubtful they will so i'll have to do some of my own research and find a supplier near me. Quite interested to see how much it would cost to get going compared to a JBL Co2 set. Really dont like the idea of using a fire extinguisher myself, gaffer taping the handle closed etc etc just looks bodge like.
