This Is What I Found In My Minnow Trap!

oh my godness, check the traps to find a funny looking fish, i think its some type of scottish fish LMAO

I checked the traps yesterday, no darters :(, can you guys think of anything to put in as bait other than hotdogs, and bread. I thought about blood worms but they would all just fall out

This may seem strange but fish go CRAZY for garlic.

When I had trouble feeding a new fish (tire track eel) it was suggested that I take the food And soak it in garlic water.

I just got a small bowl, put some water in and crushed some garlic in. I let some food (in my case chopped up jumbo shrimp) soak for a while and as soon as it hit the tank all my fish, including the eel, were after it. He had rejected the shrimp for 4 days while and I was putting it in his face with tweezers. Lol

I'd think if you were to soak some bread in garlic water you'd have everything within a 1km radius stuffed into your trap. Lol

You'd proabably find me in the trap as well.... mmmm garlic bread :D

Well I caught a darter, but have no where to put him. Almost bought a 55 gallon last night but it still wouldnt be cycled. So I guess I'm going to let him go, I will take pictures of him first and post them later this afternoon.
I did manage to talk my other half ( LOL thats why I love him) in to going halves with me. Hes actually selling his bass equipment ( guitar = bass, not fish = bass) to get a bigger tank!! My original plans was to get a 20G long and do a planted tank, now catching these pretty little Darters and such, my plans changed to do a natural Ohio stream set up!! I will still do it planted, but im going to try and go with what grows wild here!!

Regardless look for pics later, this darter is not as pretty but he is still pretty colorfull! :D

Oh I plan on doing at least a 29g, maybe a 55 if i get the right price!

Check online in classifieds. In Canada I use kijiji.ca and I always am able if find BIG tanks for cheap. Just the other day I found a 75gal set up for $100.

If you buy used is Sooo much cheaper.

Please, please hold out for a 55g! My husband caught a green sunfish a couple months back (they're really beautiful) and put it in his 55g with 2 firemouth cichlids and 2 Jack Dempseys, a BN plec and catfish. He rules the tank! And his favorite food is mealy worms. He gobbles them like crazy. He also likes leeches (smaller is better). The other fish like all those too. It's really fun to watch him feed them.

We've thought about adding other sunnies to the tank too, since they're warmer-water fish.

Can't wait to see some photos when you get it all set up!

I know I caught some really pretty sunfish yesterday, I had a baby bluegill, in my minnow trap but I let him loose. I want to do a tank with some sunfish, a school of minnows, or creek chubs, and a variety of darters. I went to a different creek last night and was just swooping my net in to see what I caught and man for the creek being high, and muddy I caught a bunch of minnows and a couple different darters. I cant wait to be able to see and be about knee deep catching them. Going camping this weekend so i will have a field day!! LOL

Man how awesome that would be to have a large setup with bluegills, and sunfish, or even bigger with bass and crappie in it!! :D I cant wait its going to be awesome!!!!! It will take me another 2 weeks to save up and get a 55 gallon!! Or I could go get a 29 gallon today with everything I need but gravel and plants to get started? HMMM, should I wait or not, it would be lovely to get it started this weekend, but it would be even better to get a 55 gallon!!! :D

You should check out your local Freecycle group, or craigslist, and see if you can find a cheap or FREE 55g.
