My new tank is an AquaOne 620T which is a 130 litre tank and dimensions 39d x 62w x 72h cm. It has a trickle filter system on the back of it that sucks in the water and feeds in back in after cleaning.

Whilst its fair to say that water is clean the current isn't fantastic so I wanted to get a new type of filter so I could up the water flow.

Due to the way the tank is built I would need to cut plastic to feed pipes for a canister filer.

I thought a mechanical filter inside the water under the surface of the water would give me enough water flow without stressing the fish such as the Eheim Pick Up 160 (2010) Internal Filter

But I don't know whether that would filter 130 liters of water in the tank and I was told that type of filter was an interim measure at best till I got a canister filter

Can I have some input to what I should/could do. I am sitting on the fence at the moment.

Apologies for the double post; its not an attempt to increase my post count it was a case of me not properly explaining what I needed help with.

This is the message I should've sent.

Admin forum boss dude, please delete my message above if deemed necessary, I tried deleting it myself to no avail.

One of my fish tanks has a fitted lid and there is no room to run any pipes for a possible canister filter (I would prefer a canister filter, I have run them before with my success)  Due to the lack of access I thought an internal filter would do the job of a better water current and increase filtration, the tank already has a trickle filter but I don't put too much stock in its cleaning prowess

The tank volume is 130 litres so I thought an internal filter such as the Eheim pickup 160 would do the job. I have read articles that an internal filter would be okay for a short period of time, but not long term. I could ask an aquarium shop what to buy but how do I know I am getting the right product, they may very well sell my the latest product with go-faster strips but it wont suit my actual needs.

I would like some input please; who here has an internal filter such as an Eheim or other brand and what do they think of it? Would it be feasible to use an internal filter fulltime? I was told such a filter is for a short period of time only.

Would it be feasible to use an internal filter fulltime?
I honestly can't see why not, Many of the members here run internal filters, and unless I am mistaken Eheim is quite a good brand.

I agree with Nick. I've had nothing but internals in 19 years of fish keeping.

If you want a better, though more expensive, internal look at the Eheim biopower range. For 130 litres with a trickle filter, the biopower 180 should be more than enough. The Eheim aquaball range is also good, and slightly cheaper, and again the 180 model.
Other people rate the Fluval U2 range.

Thank you for the comments.

A hypothetical question then; I have a 4 foot tank, I cant remember how many litre's it is (around 400 i think).

Can you run 2 internal filter, one at each end. Just curious, I could get one canister filter to do the job, but I thought two internals might be an option?
