i have a fluval profile 1200 ,they already have hole drilled in base so was thinking sump but because the doors on the cabnet open at the ends and has a center partition i can only have one 21 inches long buy 16 inches wide buy around 18 inches high would this be large enough .

That seems like it would be slightly larger than a 20g tank. Having a sump of any size is always beneficial and the bigger the better. Just make sure you leave plenty of space to work.

A sump should be roughly 1/10th the size of the main tank

sorry been away for a while , Thanks for the answers it leaves me about 8 inches of space so should be room to work i hope, if i have the skimmer at door end .
Not going marine for a while but getting ready hoping to shut current malawi down next year before holiday then start marine when get back just trying to find as much info as poss . Good thing is my sister in laws uncle builds aquariums as i found out after purchase of the profile so he will make a sump to fit .

what is best in a sump i was thinking heaters skimmer and pump .
