I'm thinking about getting a tank. I'm probably not able to get one, but I've been really thinking about a ten gallon in the past two weeks. I wanted small, tropical schooling fish. I thought between two choices:
White Cloud Mountain Minnows (1.5-2 inches) or Harlequin Rasboras (2 inches). I'd like to have five of each. I was really thinking of the white clouds. I read very little about both and websites said thy were very hardy fish and were easy to care for. A five gallon shrimp tank is easy, but I'm really not interested in invertebrates. Are a set of five white clouds or harlequin Rasboras okay in a ten gallon??

Thanks.

I'd say that it would be better to go with a larger shoal of the rasboras, but rather than harlequin, I'd suggest smaller varieties, like Trigonostigma espei or T. hengeli. They are very similarly colored, but smaller, the espei (commonly called the Lambchop rasbora) being the smallest of the 3, also the best colored, in my opinion.

Or a bunch of another beautifully coloured small rasbora species like mosquito rasbora(boraras brigittae)

Snazy, how big are mosquito Rasboras?

Another question, would a cherry shrimp eat live brine shrimp if I kept them together?

My cherry shrimp quite love frozen brine shrimp but not sure if they'd go catching live ones to be honest as it wouldn't be any smaller/bigger than their own newborn baby shrimplets which they don't touch.

Max size of the boraras brigittae is 2cm(0.8 inch). Here is a link with full specs:

Gee thanks! I doubt an LFS around my place will carry them, do you know a site that will alow you to order them and they'll ship them to you?

I am not in the USA, so wouldn't be able to assist with that but certainly you should be able to find them. The most famous American one I can think of is aquabid.com.
If you have online shops that you like, ask them via phone or e-mail or even the local fish shops. Here, most of them are happy to order fish species that they normally don't have as long as they've got the buyer waiting.

Try: http://www.thatpetplace.com

They sell fish over the internet, and also have a store you can walk in and buy. I've visited them (they are about a 2 hours drive from my house) and they have literally HUNDREDS of tanks with freshwater fish. They also have a dedicated plant room. And a separate marine room. It is literally the largest pet store I've ever seen. They claim to be the biggest in the world. I can't believe that there is a bigger one.

Yet, their tanks are AMAZINGLY clean and I've never seen a fish even sick in the tanks let alone dead. They hold them for at least two weeks before they ever put them on sale. They put signs on the tanks for the new arrivals, which can be a bit torturous. I see the fish I want, but I can't buy them. They do things right.

I've emailed them in the past about specific species. They have the T. espei currently on sale - $1.79. Not sure if they would/could order the other specie for you, but its certainly worth the question.

Thanks guys!!! I greatly appreciate all this help. :)

And Eaglesaquarium, since you're in the US too, I've heard the dollar per gallon sale at petco is here. Is that correct? Have you been to petco lately? I haven't in a long time.

Ive had the dollar per gallon sale at petco a few times around here.

Try Liveaquaria.com for ordering your fish, very good site. :)

Yes. liveaquaria.com is very good too! They don't have the microrasboras though - at least not right now.

And I'm not in the market for a new tank, but that is a good sale. Sadly though, the petco nearest me isn't very good for fish. Their plants are decent, but I don't like the look of their tanks. The petsmart near me is better.

I'm getting a 2.5 gallon tank from my friend in a few weeks, what can I Put in it? I don't want to cram a Betta into it. Could I get 3-4 cherry shrimp?

Shrimp go nicely in small tanks like that.

Sweet! So I've got the stocking planned out, but do you think a small tank like that is worth cycling or testing the water? I heard anything under five gallons is hard to keep control of.
