My co2 has gone bonkers and gassed all my fish. This morning/afternoon it was at 2 bar. I know because I checked it about half 1 just after it came on. It's been one of those afternoons where I've not sat down to chill, until about half an hour ago. I glanced at the fish tank thinking 'I'll feed them in a mo...' and realised no fish were swimming up and down.

I've just fished 27 fish and 10 cherry shrimp out and those were just the ones I could reach easily. Many of the snails are belly up too, although I did see a couple of babies still moving.

Checked the co2, it was at 6 bar!

I think I'm still in shock cuz I just feel numb... what the #70### do I do now?! How do I explain this to the kids?

What a horrible way to die... god I'm such a bad fish keeper!

Don't be too hard on yourself, you're not to blame, it looks like you have a faulty regulator, contact the person you bought it from and see what they're able to do.

It definitely sounds like there is a piece of kit faulty as opposed to you being poor at fish keeping, dont blame yourself for not noticing sooner. These things happen and they're not always easily avoidable. Not sure on how to explain it to the kids though I'm afraid.

Jus ttell them it was anatural accident, there was nothing you could do, but youll be getting more on sat :) more than happy for you to still have them , aslong as you get rid of that regulator for now! Dont feel bad it wasnt your fault at all :)

So sorry for your loss, but don't beat yourself up about the cause, after all you set the guage at 2 bar and not 6.

If you have any survivors, have you done any water change and/or set poerheads to aggressively aggitate the water surface, to try and get the carbon dioxide levels lowered and the oxygen levels maximised?

Ouch sorry to hear, How old are the kids? maybe you could do what my mum used to do when the canarys died and replace them, otherwise just exsplain that god obviously loved the fish tank so much he took them for his set up

Yes I will be turning it off for now.

Yes I've set the spray bar right at the surface if the water so it's agitating as much as possible, and I guess I'll be doing a large water change and body hunt in the morning instead of food shopping.

The BNs were starlights from Vicky and Kev on here, who live in London, and there was also 35 other fish. Even if I could replace them all tomorrow that would cost me... *works it out in her head* ...about £90. I don't have that.
Kids are 7, 4 and 20 months. The older two will understand what's happened and will be sad to have lost Joey (one of the harlequins who only had one eye) but the youngest will be really upset and confused... she loved watching the fish tank

S*** sorry. I feel bad enough right now because I never realised my filter had stopped for two days and I've lost 2 fish. You must be gutted.

So, so sorry Cazzie. That's just terrible.

I didn't respond to this thread earlier because I couldn't think of anything new to say. Still can't.

So I'll just add my condolences to the rest.

Thanks guys.

Woke up about 4.20 this morning in a cold sweat thinking it was a bad dream. Why couldn't it be a bad dream? :(
