There's Been A Disaster...

Oh gosh what a living nightmare! Really feel for you and your kids. What a sad day it must be in your house. To lose one or two is bad enough but to lose your whole stock is devastating.

RIP Cazzie's fish :rip:

I guess once you are over the shock of it all you will have to think about re-stocking - maybe get the children involved in choosing etc to distract their minds off it all a bit (seemed to help whenever my daughter lost a pet as staring at an empty cage (or tank in your case) can make it worse).

Regards, Athena

Fill it with earth and half a dozen gerbils :D that will get the kids over it!

i wonder if there were some members who live close to you that would like to donate some fish to you, just to get you up and running again.

cheers

maybe, but I'm pretty sure the fish they had that I wanted... I had already rehomed! For example, I took 17 fish off monty2010 a few months back.

I've drained the tank, removed all bodies, and all the plants are now in a bucket, plants on wood in bags, left the crypts where they were... more snails survived than I thought, they must be more resilient to high co2/low o2 levels, maybe because of burrowing into the sand?

Am wondering about turning this tank into the biotope in my Sig... maybe with an added palaudarium aspect? Thoughts? Gotta decide what to do rather soon other wise my filter will lose all its' bacteria...

Sorry to hear :(. As for new fish, Have you considered aerican cichlids? You could do a nice biotpe of colourful Dwarfs cichlids which im sure your childeren would love watching or maybe go for a few bigger cichlids which are genrally more interactive so im sure your kids would like them aswell.

Oh no, that's awful hun :( So sorry to read this :(

It's properly put me off Co2.

As this younger spouse said, I read threw this once. I would hate that happen to me, I would be devastated, even when my tank cracked I thought that was the end of the world. So so sorry for your losses, but I'm sure you will re-stock and it will be great again.

If your worried about your bacteria dying, you could always dose with ammonia, that way one they won't die, and just incase you got any die back with the low levels of CO2.

Again really sorry for your losses and I really do hope the kids aren't too upset

I had previously planned to have 11 harlequins off Hanny93 (to add to my shoal). I've still taken them, and then went into town and bought 3 more, plus 14 silvertip tetras. The guys also gave me 4 amano shrimp for free! Think he felt sorry for me!

So, although there was probably a small die off, I restocked pretty quick so it won't have been too bad.12 hr test showed 0 ammonia and nitrite. Going to do a 50% wc today.

The older kids were ok with it, bit sad but they understand that these things happen. Youngest was very excited to have new fish - the empty fishtank was rather confusing for her. It's hit me harder than them. I guess because as the person responsible for the tank I keep wondering if I did anything wrong, if I could have prevented it, if I set the co2 up wrong etc.

Thanks all for the support :)

I feel so bad for you. It was defiantly not your fault. This is why i am saving up for a co2 system with a pH controller. I would be pulling my hair out if i lost my fish, it would take me years to get my stock of fish back. I can imagine you will be facing a hefty re-stocking fee. I personally have over 400$ in fish and snails in my tank. Once again sorry for your loss.
