My 90l tank is cycled...processing 3ppm of ammonia in 12 hours since end of last week....So before I buy fish I am putting my two platies in as little explorers to ensure the tank is habitable. They are currently floating and I am adding tank water slowly....

Oh wish me luck

Good luck! But I'm sure everything will be fine; enjoy your new fishies and try not to worry :D

Thanks Flutter - I have released them. They have been acclimatising for an hour and and half... I am nervous but obviously ammonia and nitrite are at 0 and Nitrate at 20ppm...Not too much can go wrong can it?

Almost forgot to lower the temp from 29 degrees but turned it down late last night and tank is at 25 degrees now. My platies have been in an unheated fluval edge for a couple of years but the temp varies quite a lot in the Edge due to its small size so I think they will cope well with temp change.
I am babbling now...I am nervous....

They are happy :band:

Swimming around, exploring...not gasping with flapping gills or hiding much...they are being normal with a hint of excited anticipation in their little faces (ok that is a lie)!

I have actually successfully cycled a tank!!!!!!!!!!! I am looking forward to getting another 10 platies,
3 honey gouramis and 8 corys. NOT ALL AT ONCE...

God I remember that day. Of adding fish. Seems like a life time ago. Hope all goes well. 8 months on Iv only had one death just rem water checks and weekly water changes :)

Thanks everyone!

Well I have only put two platies in from my Edge at the moment soon to be joined by more platies, peppered cory's (x8) and hopefully a dwarf or honey gourami.

A little safe but I will stick with this one for a couple of years and almost certainly upgrade to a much larger tank when feeling more confident.

How exciting :hyper: Just a thought though...If you fishless cycled it properly you should be able to add all your stock at once and the filter should cope. Otherwise the bacteria will die off and have to re-establish which may result in a mini-cycle each time you add new fish. So you have a choice, do it now or go very slow... If you know what you want i'd get them in this weekend!

That is what I was thinking too but I am nervous in case I put them all in and they die. But as the other fish are happy I can take that as a good indication that the water quality is good...

So will the filter cope with all those fish ? It is currently happily able to cycle 3ppm over 12 hours...I am excited at the thought of getting all my stock!!!

Feed sparsely for a while and you should be fine with your stock.

Congrats! Just as a example, I cycled my 55gal (US) tank and plopped in 20 Mbuna all at once. I saw no change at all in my water stats. I think you could put them all in at once without a problem :good: It doesn't sound like you are putting a huge amount of fish in especially if you were processing 3ppm NH3 in 12hrs. Good luck with it.

Thanks
Steve

As vigosh says, as a precaution feed them every other day for the first week but no, I don't think you should have a problem. Make sure you test!

Thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have currently floating 8 platies and 3 assassin snails.

I have a snail problem

I tested the water from the fish shop (maidenhead Aquatics) and their ammonia was atleast 0.25ppm
Nitrites somewhere in between 0-0.25ppm.

My bacteria will clear that up beautifully. Am getting the cory's from somewhere else. Didn't see any there and tbh the tanks weren't that impressive for quality.
