these are thai candy dishes called "luk chop". they are made with mashed green bean, coconut milk and sugar. my wife sculpts the tiny fruits by hand, paints them with food colouring and finishes them off with a dip in jelly. ;) the whole project took her 7 hours (no joke). there were many times the night she made them that she wanted to give up as they took far longer to made than she imagined. i'm glad she stuck it out though, they turned out quite beautiful if i might say so ;) now that pics have been taken the fun can start in eating them although it feels kind of criminal to munch away on something that took soo long. ;) yahh, i'm proud of my wife. :D

They look cool, but wow thats a lot of work for 2-3 seconds of GULP
:D

Those are just too cute, your wife sounds like she's an awesome, crafty lady ;)

Very pretty, and cool! Reminds me of the Marzipan candy/cookies my grandmother used to make. It would take her all day, shaping, baking, painting the details - and would take me about 3 seconds to pop one in my mouth! Of course, that was always followed by the reoccuring realization that no matter how pretty and tasty they looked, I do not like marzipan! :p

I had a fine dinner in a Thai restaurant yesterday evening. I am always impressed by the attention to details Thai cooks lavish on their creations, and Thai restaurant owners on their establishments. Always fine fresh flowers, intricately "carved" fruit and veg, etc.

What does sadden me is the number of ethnic restaurants that "westernise" their food. The Thai last night had dishes rated 0 - 3 "chillies" where a 3 "chillie" dish was "hot", however, even these 3 chillie dishes were mild to my taste. Not like a real hot red curry on Sukamhvit Road!

very nice work by the wife.
lovely attention to detail
