Hi...some members have expressed interest in publishing a newsletter for TFF. I think it's a great idea and thought it would be good to start to generate some interest/thoughts. Obviously, the ultimate decision and approval must come from our administrator, William. Feel free to post thoughts here and I will make sure that he and all mods see this. If this comes to fruition, final copies of the newsletter would have to be approved by the moderators and forwarded to William for final approval.

Enclosed please find a short poll. Post any additional thoughts and/or comments. Feel free to state whether you wish to volunteer and under which of the following areas:
  1. Chief publisher
  2. Graphics and design
  3. Editing
  4. Writing/contributing
  5. ?Other

Although in theory it sounds like a very good idea it would have to be one hell of a big newsletter to suit the various interests of people on here although it would be good. You would need different topics to reach all members you have the guys into there oddballs then the community guys then brackish fans cichlid lovers not to mention the sw people hiding away in a very dark corner. Would take alot of people i would say to manage such a newsletter and a semi professional editor. Not that im putting down the idea i would love to write for a colomn in it just expressing some thoughts.

all that you said is true, but the newsletter would probably be monthly at the most, and therefore plenty of time to gather lots of stuff and have something for everyone, and since people would volunteer to be part of the "newsletter writing team" they would be more than happy to put aside time to make a worth-while newsletter. I do, however, think that Freshwater, Marine, and possibly Coldwater should be split up into different newsletters altogether, for otherwise only snippets would be relevant to individual people. I would be happy to volunteer, i will PM you (steelhealr) if i make the decision to volunteer :good:

p.s. incase of any doubt, i think that a newsletter would be a good thing. ;)

EDIT: PM SENT

I would love too vouleneteer for the betta section i am a betta breeder and that could give me a very good sence. I will pm you too ok thanks

Sounds like a great idea to me. To combat the "too many subsections" problem, perhaps each edition could specialise in a given section? So a regular newsletter, but then with a "feature" on planted tanks/brackish tanks/diy/illnesses, etc.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

I agree too that each magazine should have a main part of it dedicated to one section and the rest could be news from around the boards and could include some fun stuff, like quotes taken out of context, that sort of thing. Make it fun for everyone to read.

I could write betta part and do images for the betta section!! and have a betta of the month and have people inroll there betta. and have funny pics for betta jokes and all that fun stuff!!

Sounds to me like a grande idea..

..Wouldn't mind writing a couple of articles every now and then..

A newspaper doesn't always carry stories that we are all interested in nor does a hobby magazine always frontpage an area that ALL people are interested.

IMO, producing an extensive newsletter with articles on EVERY section ALL the time is probably doomed to failure. HOWEVER, having a well organized, concise newsletter, with nice graphics, might be interesting. Again...this should be the work of the members with final admin approval. This poll/thread was started by me out of expressed interest by our members:

Thoughts for a newsletter could include:
-feature article
-profile of a member's tank
-profile of a member
-review of a particular piece of aquarium equipment
-feature on a fish/invert
-a 'how I do it' section
-an aquarium humor/cartoon section....our own artists may be able to contribute here

To include articles from every section EVERY time is too exhaustive IMO. We dont' read EVERY article in the paper, right? Just some thoughts as I don't want any possible interested members being scared off from having to publish a tome SH

These are great ideas, i particularly like the idea of member's profiles. good thinking
:good: i agree with the rest of the post too

rather than a members profile (most of us have filled that in in our profile :p ) how about an 'inteview with a member' sort of thing?

I think it would be an idea to setup a mini-website. Insted of people arguing over one newsletter and the content of the newsletter, it would be easier to split into serveral different sections allowing users to pick and choose which content they wish to view. This mini-website would also just get updated once a month or once a week just like a newsletter would, or you could have it so that new and relevant information is constantly being added to it.

I voted:

-Yes
-Quarterly (or monthly, but that may be quite intense and requires a lot of commitment and team work to pull this off)
-Blanket email (I think this is a great method to actually pull back members who registered, but "forgot" about the website. And obviously it should only be sent to those who opted in for these types of emails.)

[*]Editing
[*]Writing/contributing
Happy to volunteer for those two if needed.
