What is it with this stuff!?

I have a bottle of it that I use as a last resort when I run out of my aqua stuff. The last two water changes have required that last resort due to work commitments and lack of time.

Every time I do a water change with this stuff though the whole tank goes mad, flicking and rubbing their sides like there is no tomorrow.

Anyone else noticed this with this stuff?

What could be the issue? I've never had this happen with anything else and the flicking wasn't there before. In the past I've avoided using this stuff and done a water change without any conditioner without this problem. The doubts always there though of the implications that could occur so I chicken out and head for my last resort again

If I were you I'd get some Seachem Prime online, warehouse aquatics are cheap enough...get a 500ml bottle and you'll be good for ages. Best dechlorinator I have ever used, does stink though (until it goes into the water)

If you have had this itchy/scratchy situation with your fish off that stuff you used then bin it and get something else, seriously. It really isn't a good thing seeing fish do that and I am sure they hate that stuff because of it.

You know, mine have been doing that for the past few weeks and i've been stumped as to what it is.. no sign of Ich, no sign of anything else negative really and all water parameters spot on. Yet seeing your thread, I remember I had to use the Tetra Aquasafe stuff as there was nothing left in at work and it was a dose for the full amount..

Hmmm, think I'd best check the date on the bottle and also a complete water change. If it's in date, I'm going to look into this more, then contact the rep at Tetra and see if this has been brought up before.

You can check the date but mines in date.

This isn't the first bottle of it I've had to buy. With being stuck without a car for a while I only have one LFS within reachable distance and this stuff is all that they sell. Hence my last resort without walking for an hour to get something I'm used to.

Something isn't right though.

Seachem Prime online...just buy it before you need it so you have a couple of days postage time allowed...

Has anyone had experience using Danios Anti-Chorine ...



I do have a very simple question that I think is overlooked by a lot of beginner fish keepers ...


Obviously u treat the water with anti chlorine before it enters the tank .. but how long should the water stand once the anti chlorine has been added ...

I've found the cheap stuff from wilkinsons works a treat! I don't like the tetra stuff either - its too strong I think. Although mine don't seem to mind it. I wonder if your putting too much in?

Give it 5 mins max, less if you swirl it around in the bucket after adding

I do water changes with a syphoning method so water from the tap goes straight into the tank, e.e. I turn of the filtration, take water out whilst cleaning all the rubbish out from the substrate, add dechlorinator to treat the half the tanks capacity, put water back in (mixed hot and cold to rough temp match) then add the same amount of treatment again (making it enough for the whole tank). I may leave the filtration off for another 5 mins after the refill is complete but that's it.

The stuff works very fast
