Can anyone tell me if the tetra test stips (6 in 1) are any good, and also suggest a better and more accurate kit if tetra strips will not suffice ?

the api liquid test kits are the most reccommended, and are very good. expensive in shops, cheaper on ebay. most people will tell you strips are teh work of the devil. my personal experience when being compared to the API liquid kit is that they are acceptable. no more, no less. but to be sure go with the api kit, its called 'master freshwater test kit'.

Just bought on ebay for £22.

+1
I use the api freshwater master kit and i also have the tetra 6in1 strips which now and again i will use to test for chlorine. Not only do i find the api test kit more accurate but you also get a lot more for your money in amounts of tests you can perform.

Keith.

good times, tenner more expensive in your local shop !! careful with the test tubes, they're very fragile. i dropped one on a plush carpet and it smashed

Bargain for that price! Pets at home sell it for 11 quid dearer I think!! I shall be butting one of these API when my nutrafin test kit runs out :)

Better option than the strips I was going to buy the strips but had a lot of advise on here who advised get the liquid so I did and the liquids brilliant although sometime I look at the colours and think hmm is it that or that very close haha!

Test tubes can be bought to replace those fragile things. I bought a box of 24 for very little money on line. Now that I have what looks like an unlimited supply of test tubes, I seem to never break them at all. This seems like a corollary of the idea that anything that can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time. Since a broken tube won't even bother me, I never seem to break them now.

That's my problem went through a smashing phase where I lost about 3! Have loads more lids now haha! Hopefully what I have will last until I buy my new test kit

You know, I think you're right OM, I bought the smallest box I could of plastic lab pipettes to use to dose excel directly on plant leaves that have algae. When it came it seemed like a huge number of pipettes and now I've hardly used any as I've had less algae and not really had the inclination to bother squirting them anyway, lol.

ps. I've broken a fair number of those test tubes too
