I see now, i use a nutrafin ammonia test but only test strips for nitrates and nitrite, however i've nearly ran out of these so i'll be investing in liquid nitrite and nitrate tests

This may sound stupid, but how do you know whether its accurate or not? Surely you have nothing to compare it to...

When the 2 API kits I tried both show my tap water to contain 1mg/l of ammonia. Salifert test shows 0. Dallas Water District tells me my tap water has no ammonia in it. When I did multiple tests with varying amounts of Ace Hardware Ammonia added to test vials and API reads 0. My personal tests and StandbySetting's testing convinced me.
