I bought a test kit today, it wasn't cheap, Its a Nutrafin liquid test kit but also has crystals and a tiny scoop. I have to do some reading i hope its a good one!!

Does anyone else use the Nutrafin Test kit? This cost me £45.00 around $90.00 USD.

Hi Wrams,

As far as I know the Nutrafin freshwater kits are quite good. I think maybe BTT uses them or has used them.

Good that you are going to study the instructions - its important to follow these closely - we find sometimes that newcomers make assumptions that they can do things like read the colors whenever they want to instead of the timed waiting period or that they don't think they really have to shake that long, mistakes like that.

hi, i am using the nutrafin liquid test kit, although mine is a cheaper one than yours as it only tests ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph. it's very good, colours are easy to read, tests are very simple to carry out as well.

there is one thing about this kit that has been puzzling me. the test for nitrite requires 2 reagents: no.1 and no.2 you have to put in 5 drops of each and mix. however, the kit does not provide equal quantities of these. reagent no.1 is 16ml, but reagent no.2 is only 10ml. surely if i'm using these in equal quantities i'll finish the 2nd one and still have some of the 1st one left. this is not used for any other test so what's the point? why are they noy supplied in equal amounts?

Hi Waterdrop

Yes i agree totally, I was like that once, but in the end it cost to much  now i read all instructions even if there hard to grasp. I want to know what the crystals are so i'm going to dig that section out first just because im curious, my wife would say im nosey rather than curious  but thats women for you.

LOL, my wife just says "OMG, are you reading that d**M blog again?"

I know the feeling :shifty: my wife...The (Enemy) says the same thing to me everyday..."What you reading" my reply " TFF Forums" Her reply " What again". So im in the same boat!! Why is it they just dont understand about us guys and our fishies...LOL

It's not just the ladies that don't understand. It is anyone who isn't interested in fish keeping and the things you need to learn to make it work out. Give her a break, she just doesn't understand devotion to this hobby. I'm sure she has her own things that she is just as engrossed in.

Yes, me too. In my household its just a joking back and forth we have. Actually my wife and kids have gained a lot of respect for the forum, especially as its now brought us successfully out of a few crises like power outages and the broken tank.
