Sigh, why is it that I can change all 6 of my printer cartridges without a speck on my hands except for black? With one of the black cartridges I always end up with ink on my fingers. :dunno: My Canon TS 8220 printer has both pigment and dye based black ink.

Actually I wish I could get an Epson ink tank printer but I print out higher quality photos for display and the 4 ink tanks on an Epson just can't match the 6 cartridges on my Canon.

I can't even remember the last time I changed a cartridge on a printer! I have seen that cartridge prices have shot up though

I'm in the process of picking out a new monitor for my parents' pc. The old PC was an all-in-one PC, so we thought we could just use the monitor via HDMI. Turns out Lenovo arent very smart when it comes to simplicity. The AIO PC has to be turned on to even use the monitor (no separate power). So it will be the power of two PC's just to even turn it on and use! We've been looking into the Samsung Essential line. Specifically, the S40GD 24". Seen good things about it, 100Hz RR, CAT C EEC, and easy eye saver mode, perfect for office work. Just got to wait for it to come back into stock. Also need to upgrade their new PC to win11. Would a GTX 960 compromise that at all? Or is the wall between upgrading from W10 to W11 CPU-based? I'll also have to do a fair-sized file transfer of around 450GB between the new and old AIO PC.

Just finishing up on system updates with my Asus laptop being last with Linux Mint. Having 6 physical systems with one dual booting between Windows 11 and MacOS makes for7 updates to go through.

Got rid of my last two virtual Machines removing Windows 8.1 and 7. I figured why have them when I never use? :dunno:

I totally agree. That 425 million needs a few more zeros.
They lose a lot more, because they cant control what you do on your personal platform and have to fight of the bat, a vicious community of dedicated coders, overwhelming everything they want to cover their bases.

That is why the fully owned PC is endangered.

it's a freaken pyramidal scheme that will bring them millions of dollars...

"Upload your Windows 10 profiles to Microsoft's backup service and receive security updates for up to one year.

Give me 30$, then upload all your data to me, and I'll give a couple rewards points... ArE yOu kiDding mE !!! And you're still stuck with the same problem in a year !!!

I'm already on Windows 11 for my daily and seriously considering a complete M$ eradication from my personal computers. Keep one copy of 11 on my work laptop and keep it unplugged from the network when not in use.

In spite of all the increasing ridiculous chattiness every networked devices has become. I decided to work a little more on my DNS hardening. So I worked out a good method to prevent Secured DNS over HTTP and other means to bypass my router and redirect ALL forms of DNS queries to a Pi-hole. That I configured to shut-up all the TV's, iot, printers, tablets, phoning home. In addition of network wide add removal.

I love it:

I won't be using a computer or operating system for much longer. My lenovo (it's in the name, no) ideacentre is a bucket of crap that keeps resetting and is pushing me past breaking point. My acer aspire laptop is a $3000 paper weight that acer wouldn't cover under warranty. I have been through 8 computers (desktops and laptops) in the last 8 years and they have all failed under warranty. The only pc I have that still works is my 20+ yo Pentium 4 but it doesn't work online anymore because websites are too hard for it to deal with.

On top of this I am expected to get a digital ID to use the internet starting in December 2025 but all the government departments I contact about this have no idea how I'm meant to get the digital ID if I don't have a passport. And I can't afford a passport on the disability pension, especially when my rent is going up $120 a week and when that happens, I'm back on the street where I am going to die because there's literally nowhere to live in this country anymore.

Computers suck the big one and I've had enough anyway.

Are you in USA? As for computers - i personally been blessed with building my own since 1996 so they usually last 7 to 15 years. In truth all you need is something like an intel nuc and linux (which is free). If you want to build a small computer you can do so but of course it depends on what you want as to cost but lap top performance would be around $500 or $700 (not cheap but not super duper expensive).

Linux is fine for web browsing and simple games but of course most commercial software will require windows.

Laptops - most of them are junk - dell and ibm used to have reliable models but no clue about today - last lap i used was 14 years ago and it was corporate one for a few weeks.

Man... You are so unlucky, it goes beyond imagination sometimes... :(

I built all my computer myself and they last too long. My desktop Running Windows 11 on a 2012 CPU with a small enterprise video card has been my daily driver with a laptop for 13 years. (typing from it atm) And I don't foresee any failure soon.

A couple weeks ago I bought a refurb Thinkpad T490 of amazon for 334$, HD screen, 512GB SSD, 16 GB ram Windows 11 Pro. To replace a T410 that was 15 years old.

And still working, I recovered it, cleaned it completely, installed Linux Mint, printed the pecs on a sheet of paper and "bring me home !!!" stuck it on. And left it on top of our municipal mailbox. It was gone in 20 min.

I don't get all this talk about extending updates for Windows 10. There should be no talk about this because, when released, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be the last OS they released and that instead of any new OS there would Windows 10 updates forever. LOL! Don't blame me if you click on any of the download/ad links. ;)

You can't believe everything you read from third parties...
