Harmful and feeling the effects is a little different however. They'll feel it from 100ppm without doubt. And the more sensitive fish such as clown loach, much sooner.
 
But your statement that they should find another water source because their tapwater 40ppm is wrong and misleading. That's my point.
 
No mate you misread it - I said other solutions on the market, such as nitrate removal. Not alternative water sources.

Lol, well everyone has their own ways and their right to opinionate - that I respect.

If you do some googling though, you'll see that the majority recommend a WC at 40-50ppm nitrate.

In general, a natural water source is rarely above 5ppm, and in a much smaller environment (aquarium), it needs to be managed.

Would be interesting to compare elder fish kept under 40ppm and 200ppm in colour, activity and immunity.
