Tank Uprade/changeover

Hi all i have just upgraded my tank to a 5ft 500l from a 200l and was wondering how some of u would do the changeover
My current tank is running on a fluval 405 and the new tank came with one too

1 should i just split the media from the mature filter between the two and use as much water and all the gravel out of the old 200 tank and do a straight swap
2 fishless cycle the new tank with the new filter and then swap all over
3 run the two filters on the old tank for a few days then do as number 1

What do you all think

I would say no.1 but are you planning on keeping the smaller tank running also?

If you're not keeping the 200 litre then move all across incl the filter,run both filters will help with extra filtration.

Its up to you whether you split the media,the new filter will eventually cycle it left has is,or adding some mature media in there will kick start it.but if you intend on keeping both then it won't hurt letting it run from new.

What stocking are you aiming for? if thinking of corys,loaches etc,it might be a good move to change to sand...

I swapped in January this year from a 30L to a 180L.
I filled new tank with new sand and de-chlorinated water, let the sand settle for a few days with a new filter.
I bagged up the fish in freezer bags, put my old filter in and swapped over all the ornaments.
Took out the new filter as it was rubbish, climatised the fish and then set them free.
The fish are still fine to this day.
