Hi i just ordered this tank stand (see link) Tank Stand and am a little worried now that the top has no surface will my tank be ok on this its a rekord 80 and is the right dimensions to sit on top just a little worried bout the bottom of the tank falling out or something!!

Comments appreciated..

yeah dont worry my cousin those lot have the same stand.dont know about the tank but they leave it on and it want fall through

it should be ok if its going to fit perfectly,, if not get a nice chunk of wood cut to size for the base then sit the tank on top of the wood<make sure its a strong wood :good:

It will overhang like half an inch either side!! Would this matter??

personally in that case i would make a wooden base just to be sure

yep just sit a piece of wood on top the same size as your tank base to stop any stress points should be easy and well worth it :good:

The outer edge of a tank is what actually sis on the stand. If you turn over an empty tank and look at it, you will see that only the outer edge will actually touch the stand. If that part of the tank is well supported, you can ignore the rest of the bottom as far as support. It wouldn't touch a solid shelf so it won't matter if there is just air there. The only time there can be a problem is if something does contact the glass part of your tank. It is not designed to have any weight on the glass and it is likely to fail if you support it from the glass instead of the frame.

Yup, Oldman is right. If you had an acrylic tank though, it needs to be supported on all points.
