So I have been redecorating the tank, to give it a more natural look. What do you think? The fish seem to like it so far... Especially Oliver, he's having a ball with the mopani and grape wood :D

Very nice!!!

One thing you might want to consider, though, if you are going for a more natural look - get the blue glass out and get some natural gravel (your LFS should have it available) for the bottom. Just an idea.

Otherwise, as I said, it is looking very nice!

Good idea, but I'm a bit fond of the funky-color floor. :p I can't bear to part with it, haha.
Thanks very much!

OK - like I said, just a thought. :)

I think its nice personally! and he seems happy! more plants would make it look more natural though and would go well with your bog wood! :good:

I think the wood looks great! I always think more is better for neat wood when decorating, although it might use a few more plants as well.

It's nice!

Thanks everyone!

I ended up having to remove the grapewood (the twisted branch) because it started making slime invade the tank, which confused me because I was pretty sure it wouldn't do that... so now my water's all murky.. :( I feel bad because my little clown pleco loved that wood and was constantly munching on it.

I ended up taking out the plastic plant as well because I was able to pick up some cute small plants! There's 4 of them, about 4 inches long each and they are nice- I placed them where the fake plant was and I'm hoping they start growing soon. Pics will be up sometime tonight or tomorrow. :good: I've also got 2 bulbs in a bowl with an aquatic plant fertilizer tab, hopefully those sprout and I get some more plants for later.

Bummer about that piece of wood!

I'm pretty sure you are going to have to get some driftwood in there, though, for the plec. I'm pretty sure they need it for digestion, maybe?

yea... i have a price of grapewood in my tank, i wish you all could see the slim on my filter XD it happens, but my zebra pleco loves it, hes all over it all the time. my wood wasnt cured before i used it so my water turned brown, but some carbon added cleared it up well enough, even though my tank is really slimy. I clean it alot, atleast once a week. what a chore it is XD but its worth it for a beautiful tank !

There's mopani wood in there as well, (the darker piece of wood) which he can eat as well.

The plants I got are called White Ribbon plants... anyone have experience with them?

Edited to add: GRRRR! I got ripped off! Just found out they will rot and die soon enough, they're terrestrial plants. Ugh, not sure what to do now... :(

Too bad about that grape wood. I'm sure your LFS has some type of true aquatic plant like a java fern or some java moss. Or you could buy those bulbs that are all in a package for about $3-$5 and those will grow pretty quickly. You can find them at nearly any LFS or even Wal-Mart. I love those for ten-gallon tanks because they sprout so quickly and you don't even have to bury them. The betta would love them I'm sure!

Good luck!

I went to petsmart and went to buy some, ended up potting the ribbon plants since I liked their look... A worker gave me 2 bulbs from a package that had been opened and she was told to throw away, she said she'd like some good to come out of the wasted pack. So I popped those in my little 1gal bowl with a fertilizer tab... How soon should they sprout do you think?

I'd give it about five days to see the first sprout. From my experience they stay as a shorter sprout for another week then explode with growth! And with a fertilizer tab they might go even faster. Just don't bury them because they tend to not sprout and will just rot in your water.

Good luck! Hope you get some big leafy ones because my betta boys love to lay on them like they are some type of fish couch!
