Tank Redecoration

SO, picked up some ACTUAL aquatic plants, and am waiting for these bulbs to sprout so I can put them in the tank and fill it up a little more... here's how it's looking so far...

The tank's current look:

The tank is looking great, im so glad your going for real plants. The only thing i would change is the gravel (from a personal opinion), i'd go for a much finer gravel or sand, it not onle looks more natural but i find my plants root much better in finer stuff, just an opinion though ;) . At the end of the day everyone has different tastes and you have to go with what you like!!!

Looking good  , that elodea will grow nice and tall and often shoot out baby plants. It filled one corner of my 29 gal until I put my angelfish in there, they kept knocking it out so I finally threw it out. I know you said in an early post you like your gravel but a finer gravel underneath perhaps might encourage root growth of live plants, that big stuff is sometimes hard for the plants to grow in. Just an idea, but it looks good either way!

Just picked some more plants up... I think my goal is to make a wall of plants in the back :)
The new ones are "Hygrophilia Augustufolia" (long pointed plant) and Ludwigia Repens (red tipped plant).

What do you think?

Hey there,
glad to see Oliver is on the mend...some nice shots of him there too :) his fins dont seem to be TOO badly affected and will grow back in no time.

tank's looking great! good to see you have live plants! Especially the elodea as it grows like mad and sucks up lots of nitrogen (= lower ammonia/nitrates, and fewer water changes!)
one suggestion, take the bands off the plants and plant them all separately...just push their little bottoms right into the substrate. and you have the advantage of having beads which are heavier than gravel etc., which will help to weight them down until roots establish.
good luck with your ludwigia. i had some, on two separate attempts, and could never keep it alive...slowly lost all its leaves and i had to pull it. but the elodea will grow nicely and once it gets too "tall", just pinch off the tops and replant...a seemingly endless supply of plants.
nice wood too..im on the hunt for the "perfect piece".
cheers and keep up the good work!!!
cheers

Thanks :D
I've separated the Hygrophila Angustifolia into 2 bunches of 2 stems each and made the Ludwigia stand against the back of the tank. I'll probably separate the Elodea later, right now I'm going to keep them in bunches. Popped the 2 plant bulbs into the tank, going to see if that promotes their growth.... so far no sprouts, thouh I can barely see the tips of the roots on them. I'm so loving my plants! They're great.
