I am restarting my tank after a move. The water at my previous location was very hard and I had a problem with mineral buildup in my tank. I now have a white haze on the glass. How can I get this off? I don't really want to use anything harsh if at all possible. Thanks.

Good luck getting it off. I posted last year about this time with cloudy glass that I had just bought. got a new tank yesterday and the old one is going out for the trash tomorrow!

I've heard people say that ammonia will get it off, but you probably need a good scrape. You can use an algae scraper or the ones used to clean electric stove tops.
Vinegar should remove limescale; soak a cloth in the vinegar and let it sit for a bit first.
I've heard the vinegar suggestion works. But in practical fishkeeping last month there was a little tip about using lemon juice as apparently it's slightly more effective. I used it on the rim of the tank where I had limescale build-up and it worked well. Just had to lower the water-level to make sure that no lemon juice got in there.

I got most of it off with vinegar. I'm going to try the lemon juice thing also. It is still a little foggy but the clarity is good enough for where it will be. It just goes in my youngest's room. He is fascinated by fish and won't be able to tell the difference. Luckily my other tanks weren't as bad.
