i am planning on getting a 33us gallon, 125litre tank(fluval roma 125) for tanganyika cichlids,
i plan to have a tetratec1200 external with hydor heater(external), maybe a koralia 1 powerhead too....

is this stocking list ok:

3 Neolamprologus leleupi------------yes--------------12inch
2 Neolamprologus pulcher-------------yes--------------8inch
2 Neolamprologus Caudopunctatus-----------yes------6inch
1 Neolamp Sexfasciatus Tanz Gold, -----yes-----------6inch
1 Pseudotropheus demasoni(Malawi)------yes-----------2.5inch
1 Altolamprologus compressiceps-----yes----------4inch---- may change it for 1-2 neolamp tretocephalus

1 Red Violet Cochliodon(L137)--------maybe or:----4.5inch
1 Bristlenose Pleco------------yes-----------5inch

Optional:
Pair or sulawisi elephant snails- 8 inch

Stock up to 55inch????

i will have a cave for the plec, coral sand to puffer already high ph(7.8) and plenty of rocks

I reckon you will have problems with the sexfasciatus and tretocephalus, (if you get them). The tretocephalus are nasty little buggars and will have a go at everyone in the tank, particularly fish that resemble them, (this includes gold sexfasciatus).
There's also probably not enough room for the leleupi, pulcher & caudos. If you have lots of rocks in there (for hiding places) it will help, but the more rock, the less water. You could try them and see what happens, but if they start arguing over territory you will have to add more hiding places or move a pr out.

ok thanks, i was not sure about them two aswell because of the size, i thought a maximium of 4" would be fine, whereas these two top up at around 6"

I'd also drop the p.demasoni, they have different dietary requirements than the other species, and are likely to get bloat if kept on a carnivorous diet. :good:

bump, what community tangs can i keep then? going what by others said, they are all agressive so wont one give some to the other and he will give some back?

ok, are there any other malawis i can keep with tangs that have roughly the same requirements?

Not that I can think of, your tank is really too small for any mbuna. I know I've come across some smaller hap profiles, but can't remember the species, maybe someone else can. :good:

ok, i am slowly learning that maybe my tank isnt big enough for the tangs i want to keep, i will research a bit more over the next few days but i will also look into what other fish i can keep, maybe a breeding pair of firemouth's?

Sorry to hear it's not working out for you, but firemouth's sound great, at least I've always liked them. If you haven't read it here's the profile for them http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=60979 :good:

This stock choice is obviously based on my own Tanganyika tank (see signature)

Would just like to add that although the tank size is not ideal ( I have 3 tank upstairs weight issues  ) all fish are getting on well and are healthy/thriving.

Ok, there are the odd squabbles that last a split second or so (well they wouldn't be cichlids if there wasn't).

My set-up is well full of rocks which I change around every water change to stop territory holding. Being artificial rock it is also hollow with openings which not only serves as caves but means the water displacement is very small compared to solid.

i think i have now scrapped the idea of keeping tanganyikans, as the largest tank i can fit in my house, a 125l isnt suitable really, 80cm isnt fair, i am still thinking on the cichlid side, but more to breeding firemouths/convicts i think :)

thanks for the help anyways guys

Aw that's a shame.....he's my 125lt Tanganyika set up

with thouse pictures its so very tempting, but i cant help ignore that the species i want wont be 100% happy in 80cm long tanks

thanks anyways
