Suicidal Fish?

I have a aqua clear 50 power head, 270 gph. I have lost 5 fish to this power head. I have 1 glowfish left, and one of the new black skirt tetras I put in was stuck face first in the intake port. Could it be too much suction for the smaller fish? the clowns and bgk have no problem with it at all. But i'm tired of losing fish! The bgk loves it, Every time I unplug the power head after finding another fish in it, he grabs it and takes off with it before I can get my hand in there.. but still not enjoyable for me.. Any ideas?

If you have adjusted the flow down and have lost fish I would think it's too powerful for smaller fish the way it's designed. I have Koralia powerheads and they have a different design and I haven't had any fish or shrimp killed by them.
