Maybe so but you should always judge the tank size you put them in by the size of the adult fish. If the fish is already 7 years old I'd recommend putting him in a correctly sized tank now before its growth is stunted (if it already hasnt been)

Plus buying a 55/75 gall now and then having to buy another even bigger tank in 2/3 years will work out far more expensive in the long run

However if he doesn't have money for a 125 atm, but has the money for the 55g he could still go for the 55g until he has a bit more money for a larger tank, than he can sell the 55g and add that money to his for a larger tank .

Thats how I see it anyway, I HATE seeing tiny fish in a huge tank lol, one of my little pet peeves.

Thing is though, we don't have test kits for how much growth hormones certain fish produce.
You might find that IF a juvenile fish is put into a tank big enough for it to grow to full size. Then the growth hormones will be diluted enough to allow it to grow un-restricted.
Simply upgrading as and when, may still stunt the growth of the fish or cause other un noticable problems.
I don't like seeing an empty looking tank, but if it's the best thing for the fish and bearing in mind they will eventually grow meaning you will need 'X' sized tank.
Why not give it to them from the beginning. Less faff for you, less stress for the fish and generally a better quality of life!

Agree with curiousity.

You wouldn't keep a puppy in a cardboard box then just upgrade the cardboard box as it grew! It would live in a full sized house from the start.

That may be a daft comparison but fish are still animals and should be kept in the correct environment to ensure they live their life to their full potential.

As with a puppy, if you couldnt afford to keep it, you wouldnt get it! So if you cant afford the proper sized tank for a particular fish then you should'nt keep that fish. If it was bought unaware of its potential size then the correct thing should be done and the fish rehomed

Silver sharks kept in the correct environment can be expected to reach around 15/20 years old

The fish I recommend you rehome are as follows:

Defo the shark and clown loach, I'd look at getting rid of at least 1 plec as you have 3 which for that size tank will be causing waste galore.
