Substrate Change

I recently changed my substrate from sand to gravel but have kept my filter. I have a stocking 1/3 full of the sand I used before in the tank atm. Just wondering how long it takes for the bacteria to migrate from the sand to the gravel, it really detracts from the look.

It should move in 2days-1.5weeks.

Hi. If the filter material has not been removed or changed then i wouldn't worry too much about the substrate change. Leaving the sock in the tank is probably good insurance, but i don't think it'snecessary to leave it for much longer than a week or so. The bacteria can reproduce quickly in an established tank. Keep an eye on your water stats and if there aren't any spikes in ammonia or nitrite then you are ok.
