Stupid Sand Query

A few weeks ago I had what I think was a very mild dose of whitespot (well not me, my Neons). I treated and all was well but now it's got me thinking about my sand. When I have excess that I can't be bothered to put straight back in the tank I just shove it in the bucket (once I've cleaned it) with my "spare" sand I use for topping up when it gets low.............do you think the whitespot could still be living in it? Coz obv if it is then I need to just chuck it out and get new.

things like whitespot cant survive without a host (fish) for long so depending on the length of time the sand has been without a host or in water will determin if its still in the sand.
any sand that gets sucked out of my tanks gets chucked in the garden as its so cheap to get another bag, if they have any of course.....

if you are that worried about it you could always pore a few kettles worth of boiling water over it in a bucket. that would kill it off it is still in the sand.
