Ok so im using the sponge filter daz gave me, he said wrap it in mature filter media, which will make it safe

ive done that

ammonia 0

nitrate 10ppm

nitrite 0.3ppm

so the last 2 are stupidly high, the water stats b4 i filtered his tank with the sponge filter were always 0

the filter media is mature and is from my external filter, which has been established well over a year

any ideas??

ive done a 50% water change, should i stop filtering?

maybe its just settling in, i recently added mature filter media, along with water from the tank it came from, and it still took about 2 days to settle back down after a couple of water changes

The nitrAte isn't really high! My nitrAte averages 15-20. Dont stop the filter now as you'll end up at square one. Just keep up daily water changes :good:

that is high for me, i have a set amount that i like to stick too hahaha

Oh, just one thing.......if you got live plants in there they could do with the nitrAte to flourish :good:

my plants flourish very well atm, in both tanks, i have supplements that i dose the water with ever day, so its all good

i just hope the levels drop soon in sobeks tank, it worries me lol

perhaps if it was mature meadia from a well cycled fully stocked tank...many many bacteria and then in the new tank not enough ammonia to feed so a few died off, dead bacteria caused a spike, grew some more bacteria... well you get the picture.

Im not an expert by any means so the above is just a guess. Id just keep at the regular water changes and it will probebly be resolved pretty soon.

and yea my water comes out of the tap at 20ppm, my 29 gallon is understocked plus with my live plants in there it tends to keep the level right at 20ppm actualy because I dont do anything special for the plants.

water around here seems to be ok, which is good lol

yeah i think even tho the media was mature it died off, well its just gonna be loadsa water changes, oh the joys, well least its only a 4gallon, so i carnt complain really lol
