Stole Something From The Lake Today...

p.s. - i am positive that it is not a law in texas, that you cannot move fish from one body of water to another... maybe in canada, but not here...
It should be a law,
We have a few lakes where I live that had chain pickerel introduced to them. Now there is nothing in the lakes but chain pickerel. But even if you move a fish to a body of water where there are the same species of fish, there is the threat of introducing disease. A lil off topic but w/e.

the tank with the red shiners has planaria all over the glass, thats a sign of over feeding or a lack of cleanliness.

nice fish though. we dont get many nice looking wild fish in this country and i used to catch minnows and put them in my tank for a while before releasing them again.

Stunning fish, though I agree that 55 gallons may not be big enough for him in the long run, especially considering what it is already stocked with. Maybe you could just enjoy him for a while and then set him free

that picture was taken the second day that tank was setup...

there is no possible way that they could have already been overfed and done anything, considering i had just caught them in a creek and thrown them in...

it must be a bad picture...

That fish is beautiful!

Some of the comments here are just laughable ...and I'm being so nice ...

Many MANY MANY fish in the hobby are wild caught and then sold to "you" ;)
and anyone who can't handle a hook in a fish's mouth, should just lock themselves in a padded room...cuz you will never survive the real world.

I really think that having a native tank is cool its just there are so many animals in this tank and it's not even filled to the top.

It's illegal in wyoming and colorado I know for sure, have you checked with your game and fish?

Ok people, let's not get in trouble with the mods.

It's not like you can go to his house and take away the tank, so go turn off your monitors and take a chill pill!

If he wants your advice, he'll take it, if he doesn't, then that's his choice.

Well, Idolz would have a point if all those critters were full grown... but they're not. For now it should be fine, so long as you don't mind some of the smaller fish occasionally going missing in the near future

I'm going to trust that you'll watch closely and know when it's time to let the bigger fish free.

none of my native fish will get any bigger, really... except for the pumpkinseed baby... and by the time he does, i will have my 200 gallon tank...
;)

my turtles will definitely grow, and eventually be put into our turtle pond...

but that is like 10 years from now...

i am not an animal abuser and i take very good care of what i have...

give the guy a friggin break if you wanna think like that its cruel to keep fish in a tank they cant get away from you all your fish should be released? ahahaha please releasing fish is dangerous and shouldnt be done

come on people its his tank its his fish and a very nice one 1000's of people fish everyday do you stop everyone of them and say hey thats cruel and mean

give it a rest and if you have ntohing nice to say dont say it

nice fish dude!

animal cruelty happens now go talk to your friends www.peta.com

if he were some rare fish, i wouldn't have kept him...

i just thought because of the fact that these fish never get to big, are not sought after by fishermen, and are so pretty, and common, it would be nice to have one as a pet...

his name is "pixels"...

my g/f was like "that is a dumb name"

but he has a smiley face on his side that looks pixelated... :*)

hey Trevelyn1015 you arnt having much luck, i remember your last post and everyone was hassleing you.

i think most people here are being stupid. what Trevelyn1015 is doing is his own business and if you had posted a pic of your tank and everyone had a bad opinion of it you would feel hurt.

now what he has done could be up for ethical debate but realy he has done nothing wrong as he is not harming the fish as they will be feed and cared for and he will see when the fish are too big that he would need a bigger tank. now from an ethical point of view he is doing a greater "good" through education about native fish than any bads, even on this site all of the people who have replyed are now know more about the ecology of streams in texis. and keeping native fish is better then importing exotics from a moral point of view as the mortality rate for the fish species that you buy from shops is sometimes between 70-90%.

so Trevelyn1015 ignore peoples points of view and i for one am sick of hearing your nonconstructive comments. and as an environmental scientist (in 4 months) i can see nothing truly wrong if they are all common species and i think you should continue with the threads u r posting
