Trying to work out at least a rough stocking of my 36 gal. There's just so many choices. :) I currently have (in other tanks but thinking of relocating to the new one):
1 rainbow shark
3 hatchetfish
2 silver dollars
2 fancy guppies
1 African dwarf frog
2 dalmatian mollies

I've found a few things that I like (and yes I know I won't be able to have all of them):
Honey Gourami
Neon Green Rasbora
clown/yoyo loach
harelquin rasbora
Celestial danio
Tiger barbs

I would really appreciate some input into this. I'm trying to research as much as I can and have the massive headache to prove it haha.

Here is my thoughts on your stocking:

1 rainbow shark- needs a 55 gallon
3 hatchetfish- needs a bigger school
2 silver dollars- needs 75 gallon.
2 fancy guppies- good
1 African dwarf frog- not sure. I think it's good.
2 dalmatian mollies- good

I've found a few things that I like (and yes I know I won't be able to have all of them):
Honey Gourami- doable
Neon Green Rasbora- what are they?
clown/yoyo loach- not doable. Needs 75 gallon.
harelquin rasbora- doable
Celestial danio- doable
Tiger barbs- will stress other fish.

I'm pretty sure that Danio's prefer cooler temperatures so it would depend on you temp for whether or not you could keep them. (I was told this but I may be wrong) :)

They might, I think the celestial might be an exception though. We need a danio expert in here!

Haha yeah! When I was thinking of having Danios in my tank everyone was like no they like cooler temperatures. They'll just get stressed in higher temps
So yeah that was pretty much what I was told so I'm just passing on info! :)

I've had a google and apparently cpds go best in 20-25 degree waters. (celsius)

I second TallTree's response,
If you want to keep more than 1 guppy or dalmatian molly its recommended you do it as a 1:2 M:F ratio, though the more females, the less problems.
Harlequins like to shoal so 5+ of those in a tank should you choose to stock them!
Now, as for the Danio, if you are referring to Microdevario kubota at least 5 are recommended even though they are not true schooling fish.
If you were to add all of the fish TallTrees has said is doable, in a right sized tank, it would work perfectly at 23/24oC. So you should have no problem choosing the fish you want out of the 'doable' list! :)
Naturally CPD thrive at 20-23 and when breeding eggs hatch at 24/25 this means that most captive bred CPD will actually be quite happy at as high as 26oC though this doesnt make for an ideal scenario.
I'd love to hear what your final decision is!

Thank you guys so much! The information found here is absolutely amazing. I would be completely lost without this forum. Okay so here's the idea. I'm very partial to my rainbow shark. So far he's the only fish I've actually named.

I have the 36 gal that I'm trying to stock and I also have a 10 gal. The hatchet fish, silver dollars, and frog I'm going to keep in the 10 gal (The silver dollars I know need a bigger tank, and I'm working on that but in the mean time...). Here's what I'm thinking for the 36 gal.
 1 rainbow shark (6" ish)
 3 dalmatian mollies (12")
 3 fancy guppies (3")
 2 honey gourami (4")
6 neon green rasbora aka microrasbora/microdevario kubotai (I've seen both  names I'm not sure which is actually right) (6")
 6 Harlequin Rasbora (6")

With the exception of the shark, which I'm sure I will get yelled at for, what do you think? Also if you have any other suggestions for other species I'm more than open to suggestions. Nothing is set in stone yet because I'm still cycling the 36 gal.

Okay, I'll remember that for next time I'm giving advice on Danio's lol!

Celestial Pearl Danios are the exception - the other Danio species do indeed like cooler water. WHen they were first discovered, they were classified as Rasboras (Galaxy Rasboras, to be precise.) I don't know why they were re-classified.
