You too huh

Im on the fence with firemouths and groups Thoricthys is a big family - growing nearly every year with discoveries and there is a vast difference between top and bottom on the aggression scale - Ellioti are probably the calmest and in a tank yes a group will work. Thoricthys are not really that gregarious - especially when you compare them to other similar fish particularly their relatives Astatheros.
As well reason I went for single males rather than a group is its what Wrigtt3 was after in the tank - single males are a well documented success in tanks so I probably wouldnt be as aggressive against them - although I do agree it is slightly un-natural for them to be kept like that but there are a lot of examples of thriving tanks like this out there.
With the Texas - I was refering to them being kept in the 300 at the bigger end of the OPs tank limits. If you read the post I do mention changing fish for if he goes for a 240 for example
Agree with you Lloyd on the Columbians - but we were still building the tank and had not got round to dither numbers or species. But I also agree with Wrigtt3 on the Angels in a 30g tank more than 2 will just hurt each other its not big enough for a group.
